Met quite a few at gigs. Most nice normal guys, not the big bad scary dudes kids want them to be. Also lived with a former member of one death metals biggest bands. Cool guy.

Met the punk band "the Business" when I was very young and went back stage with them and stuff. Then they brought us on-stage when they played their set. That's an amazingly cool experience when you're like 13 years old. They're a very big, old school UK punk band too. Also met Oderus from GWAR when he was out of costume. Me and a few friends recognized him walking around eating a cheeseburger at a big metal festival in '06 and we hung out for a little bit. One of my buddies got to smoke a blunt with him though, that must have been awesome.

Hung out with Zak Stevens after a Circle II Cirlce gig. Had a chat with the guys from Cynic after a show. Missed the opportunity to hang out with Tom Englund one time because it was 2:00 am and I was 16 years old at the time. I still got his autograph.

Metal Bands I've Met in Person: Wintersun - They signed my copy of Time I and I shook Teemu's hand. I didn't get a picture with them though, I wussed out since I thought I'd look ugly in their presence and there were tons of people that were waiting so I didn't want to hold the line too much, but mostly the first one. Xanthochroid - Local band that play a style of metal reminiscent of Emperor, Opeth, and Wintersun. Real cool dudes about my age to hang out with at shows. Katatonia - Met them at the same record store Wintersun visited in Hollywood (different dates obviously). I shook hands with everyone, they signed my copies of Viva Emptiness and Dead End Kings, and I got to have my picture taken with them, since I cleaned myself up beforehand. Got to say a few words with Anders Nyström, who is a real chill, laid back dude. They're all really nice blokes.

I met, chatted briefly and shook hands with Megadeth in the 90's: the two Daves, Marty and Nick Menza (circa Rust in Piece) at a signing autographs event in a record store in San Antonio, Tx. Cool guys, kinda quiet (maybe they were tired from the trip). Took an unauthorized picture with Dave Mustaine Quickly met Laney Staley (Alice In Chains - circa Facelift) in the pit when Slayer ws playing!! on that same day!! Also Bobby Blotzer (drummer) from Ratt in a Casino; a couple of friends and I hanged out with him for a while when Stephen Pearcy was no longer with the band; we asked him a lot of stuff about their break-up with him. Normal down to earth guy.

Generally get to hang out and have met quite a few musicians as I play in a band as well. So we're generally playing the same festival or are direct support. But I've also met a lot of musicians when I was staying in Europe. I've hung out with the Mastodon and Red Fang dudes backstage at one of their gigs in Stockholm, also met the Red Fang guys again last year at Metalfest Poland. Hung out with the dudes from Yob (Aaron and Mike) who are awesome people. Also met Dustin from Norksa and Stevie Floyd from Dark Castle on the same tour Had Erlend from Kvelertak try to bum smokes off me. I didn't know it was him till we started talking, coz he looked a lot shorter than he did onstage Hung out with the guys from Textures a couple of times, mainly Stef Hung out with Destruction and Lars from Entombed Met the guys from Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus Met the guys from Slayer Got Christian from Testament baked before he got onstage

Abbath and Horgh during the Sons of Northern Darkness tour, Manowar (unintentionally), Samoth, Peter Tägtgren, Corpsegrinder, Imperium Dekadenz (not a gig but on a random night drinking at a metal bar), Amon Amarth, Cryptopsy, Sacrifist, Warthane, Krisiun and a few more I can't quite remember at the moment. And of course many just from hanging out in the local metal scenes in Ontario and Bavaria/southern Germany.

Hmm... I've met the singer of Sabaton, who was absolutely a pleasure. the lead beard of The Absence and the drummer for Havok (who was playing for The Absence that day), the singer of Alestorm (who was outrageously drunk), Sakis from Rotting Christ (such a humble, kind guy) and briefly the drummer for Mastodon. All of these were before or after concerts.

27.06.2014 - 08:48 Written by Fallen Ghost on 27.06.2014 at 02:00 Just as cool as meeting other awesome people! Remember, you can make great music and be an asshole at the same time. If the music is good, is doesn't necesarrily mean that they are awesome people. I can understand that people think it's awesome to meet musicians and other celebs, I too have been starstruck more than once, but as I have become older and "wiser", ( ), I no longer see the point in worshipping musicians. I'd rather worship their work What I do find interesting, is to sit down and have a conversation with these guys on an equal basis. Not the trivial handshaking and - "Dude, I love your last album, take a picture with me!!!" - thing.

27.06.2014 - 16:08 Written by toxx on 26.06.2014 at 09:47 I agree. But it's nice to see where the music comes from. I'm not really a fan boy, I've never been excited to meet anyone and I really don't get it. But it's always fun to grab some beers and just have random conversations with guys who make music you like.
