I'd just like to say that yesterday I've successfully brewed some Glühwein all by myself. :3
I'm really proud of the results - It's just as good as my grandmother used to make it.

Looks good. In fact, I'd say that it's one of the best winter drinks there is. An interesting thing is that if you added Gabriel (a strong Estonian liqueur) to hibiscus tea with sugar, the result tasted exactly like Glühwein...

Never heard of the liqueur, don't think it's available in here... luckily Iv'e got Glühwein at least. This is the hardest winter we've had in years now. Although best medicine against the cold I believe to be vodka.

rakia with some herbs in it...the best cure for cold...and damn delicious..

Is it? Never had the pleasure of tasting... My grandparents make however great slivovitz.

The two traditional winter drinks around here are boiled wine (essentially wine with cinnamon and sugar, pepper that's boiled for a while) and Tuborg Christmas Brew.

So yeah, this "boiled wine" is essentially Glühwein. Just thinking about it makes my face like this:

I'm gonna make it clear and short. Quit acting like a fucking dickhead and keep the damn shit out the the forums. If you think trolling is going to make you (or any others whose example you might be following) "awesome", then, in fact, you just help turning this forum into a shithouse wall.

Over and out.

I was expressing my opinion regarding Gluhwein (or its Romanian variant), and you come here and insult me out of nowhere.

who are you telling Valentin how to post? It is not trolling or spamming the way he does it, so it's fine. He just expressed his opinion with some drawings (crap and not funny one for me either, but so what, some people do find them funny) to go along with it.

Yesterday I was at a festival and tried Bombay Sapphire Gin for the first time. To me the blue bottle was always offputting for some reason, But wow, I think I actually like it better than Tanqueray (and it's just as strong too.....it had me fucked right up).

you guys must have a lot of patience and money to buy so much rum just to leave it standing around for two months

I like the cola bottle in the middle, it reminds me of the vile, but absurdly drunkening stuff they brew in the countryside around here (basically fermented prune juice).

Yeah, alot of patience you need for it but we usually make 3 or 4 bottles every 2-3 months (here we went on rampage ) so there is always some good ol' rum around.

The cola bottle is the caramelized apple with salted butter.... Have no idea what it will look like since it's the first time we try it, but I have the feeling it's gonna be very very nasty (you even have all the grease forming in the upper part hahaha)

And it's in the large bottle as if it were the most important of them all...

My schoolmates once attempted to turn the cheap Chinese liquor drinkable by soaking orange peels in it. They hoped it'd transform into a cheaper version of Cointreau. However, the orange peels didn't save anything because the liquor itself had such a hideous smell and taste that no other alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink I've ever had has ever had the glory of being so awful.

Cointreau, however, is a good thing. So is Bombay Sapphire. I remember buying a bottle for my birthday party once.
Speaking of rum, Bacardi or Havana Club are the best. Since they usually cost a lot, I have sometimes bought cheaper brands instead such as Caribba. However, there is a difference in taste. Caribba serves better for mixing into cakes, sweets or cocktails while Bacardi and Havana Club provide a good experience also when consumed pure.

Nah, we actually made a mistake when measuring the amount of rum and the apples were the last ones we did... so we ended up with a bit more than intended, would have been more intelligent to have a smaller dose since it's the experimental one.

Anyway, the rum used is decent stuff and from former experiences, all should taste good... never buy cheap alcohol from chinise or similar stores, they're always awful

Which rum did you use, may I ask?

I lived in China back then. In China all stores are Chinese stores... even Carrefour is Chinese in China (they have renamed it Jialefu which roughly means Home, Fun and Happiness)... I got my booze from Carrefour mostly...

I used Old Nick rum (you can find in any carrefour-like place)... I'm not pro when it comes to rum (or anything distilled) but it tastes rather good with the mix.

Oh and the thing about chinese stores.... I wasn't talking about China itself (and don't doubt they have good stuff), but was referring more like the typical shop run by chinese dudes (very common in spain, hence everyone calls them "los chinos") that sell alcohol, fastfood, etc.... Usually the cheap alcohol in those kind of stores is hideous. I guess we were talking about two different things

I know what you mean... these Chinese stores usually are pointlessly expensive too because they're selling the stuff for non-Chinese people with higher prices there. I once found an Evanescence album (with Nightwish's vocalist on the cover) in a store like this...

Good quality Chinese liquor costs a lot in China. It can have the price of a luxury cognac. While in China I usually bought international beverages. Bacardi had a rather reasonable price there so I bought it quite often for pinha colada. Me and my friends made an entire jug of it for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film watching evening...

Yeah the 16 yo. That's the most common one in liquor stores here. I also have a 35 yo. Got it as a present from friends.

How much does a 70cl bottle of 16yo set you back in Poland?

And a damn good blend it is, made of Islay malts. Possibly the best blend I've tried along with Johnnie Walker Black.

This is a peat monster, I've never tried a whisky as peaty as this one. Bottled at 46%, it needs time and water. Definitely not for whisky beginners.

If you want a true peat monster try the Ardberg Blasda (I think is the name)

As for th one you trie here imo it doesn't need water, just one drop to open up the bouquet but that's it.
