His growls are virtually impossible to distinguish from Akerfeldt's anyway

Perhaps that's why I liked them so much in the first place

But on second thought, I think I actually heard Edge of Sanity before Opeth. It must've been "Unorthodox" or "Spectral Sorrows" some time back in the middle of the 90's. I heard "Orchid" soon afterwards.

I find the evidence to be in the fact that in the booklet the first thing they say is that the vocals aren't electronically altered at all

nope. But whenever bands piost something like that in their booklets you can Always be almost sure that it's been altered

what do you think? Just like Ufomammut's bass doesn't have any effects at all Damn I have never seen more pedals and such for a bass than at a Uffomammut gig.

Although Opeth has one of the best growls, both in the type of voice and performance,I rather Dark Tranquility growls for one certain reason,the live shows I have watched by them had much more impressive growls.

Live they are so much better But then again that is the case with most stoner, sludge and post metal bands.

My favorite "growls" at the moment are from Sebestian Pierre. So distinctive, clean and smooth.

Ufomammut underrated they get accolades all over the board and are totally revered by stoner/sludge/psychedelic/post metal fans.

Maybe I am speaking about post/sludge in general. They are a terrific band and I wish more peeps would give their genre a try. Sick of it getting shat on Marcel!

I feel it took a bit of a hit with Isis retiring but maybe a comeback in 2013 with CoL, Mouth of the Architect and Rosetta releasing albums. And the new Palms is a shot in the arm. Until Hellfest gets more than 2 post metal bands I won't be satisfied. Nice to see CoL getting a headline position tho!

No "comeback" at all. The genre has always been hot cakes. Not enough bands in Hellfest won't prove the opposite since you are talking about the wrong festivals to begin with.

Corpsegrinder is the real thing for me. Johann Hegg is awesome too.

Actually, Veland Morten is one of the best growlers I have heard.
