I used to like a lot of music, but after finding MetalStorm, I discovered many new bands I had not heard before, including Amon Amarth. Seeing "With Oden On Our Side" on the MS Random Album feature started my interest about this band, and from there my position on "extreme metal" was changed. So, this is my fourth album of AA and have to say, that I crowd it into my head two times a day. The voice of Johann Hegg is fantastic, in melodic passages sounds really amazing. I already like the album "With Oden on our side", but "Twilight of the Thunder Gods" I now prefer. Read more ›› |

Amon Amarth is a name that makes every true viking look up from their mead tankards. Unlike Ensiferum or Turisas these guys leave weaponry home and hop into a car instead of saddling their horses. They don't need props as they are vikings by heart and their album Twilight Of The Thunder God shows this more than well. Read more ›› |

Not far behind Oden and one of the reasons for me is that the vocals aren't as clear - I can't understand the lyrics here the way I can with Oden. Hegg isn't pronouncing his words clearly like he was on the previous release.

I am not going to read all comments down there but i remeber people said when it was out its week album, werry bad and so on, but now I herad it well of corse title song and guardians are best songs, and band guitars is not so mellodic but c mon still it is AA and after this time, well what we want from metal band, all shood be extremly perfect , that case even bets of cant satify Of corse its weeker than a previusly album , but still good AA ... tommrow I will listen follower and ask know so far last one

This album, I think, is their second best after With Oden on Our Side. Powerful, melodic, heavy, epic... It's hard to name a few favourite songs because almost all of them are really great and memorable.

True metal in its purest form! this is the greatest metal band around if you are into nordic culture and vikings! this album pounds you from beginning to end and the bonus dvd of the summerbreeze concert is an amazing way to learn about the might of these viking monsters!

Yes, this is overrated, but still a solid album and their last good one. Everything after this is just recycled shit. With Berserker they proved to be more dead than the vikings.

My introduction to Amon Amarth about 10 years ago, It was recommended to me by a friend who did Viking re-enactment's, and noticed I had a similar interest in Viking culture and mythology, at the time I was listening to Bathory's Viking era metal, along with Moonsorrow and Falkenbach, so I wasn't convinced at first when he recommended me a melodic death metal band, but after listening for the first time I was blown away, I was also blown away by the album cover too, and it didn't take long for me to become a fan. The tracks that really stood out for me were the epic "Embrace The Endless Ocean" (my favourite AM song), "Guardian's Of Asgard", "Varyags Of Miklagaard", "Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags", and of course the title track, the rest was still good of course. I kind of outplayed it back In it's day to the point where it doesn't have the same effect anymore, but it's still a great album in my eyes.

An epic collection of songs to battle your enemies to. My second favourite of theirs after Surtur Rising (9.3/10). 9.1/10 for me - The title track and 'Varyags of Miklagaard' are the standout tracks. 'Free Will Sacrifice' and 'Guardians of Asgaard' are both also fantastic.
