18 bucks more than a Manowar concert and you actually get to hear decent music from more than one band!

I'd rather see Manowar over this.

Maybe that's just the first event on the tour, i don't think you needed to be so critical of the announcement.
it's a marketing ploy but who the hell cares, they would never pass up an opportunity to tour the whole US as "The Big Four", so they'll announce more dates soon.

To each his own - the way I see it you might get to hear some classic '80s thrash here as opposed to rather generic heavy metal. To each his own obviously.

I'd rather see men in loin clothes than this.
i'd rather see neither. while i have a vague interest in the Big Four, Slayer puts on a good show but not what they used to back in the day, Megadeth put on a mediocre show (dave kept going off stage to fire up "jazz cigarettes" during their set), i lost most interest in Anthrax as a result of the whole personnel turmoil, and actually would be interested in seeing Metallica even if they aren't what they were.
truth be told, i am far more fired up to see Motorhead/Clutch/Valient Thorr in Tempe, where my $100 will cover a lot more than a ticket.

So lame! If these guys can tour all over Europe together they could at least give their home country more than a one-off show.

whaaaa what the fuck? indeed this is really lame. they can make so much money out of this it's unbelievable they would only do a one-off show. they even played in cities with way less metalheads in the population than many US cities like Prague or Bucharest
i quote from a guy from Pennsylvania: "you guys play all over Europe.....then come back and give us 1 fucking show! all 4 bands can shove it up your asses!!" well said, sir.

Can't you get it, Vali - they got angry at the local promoter for setting the ticket price at "only" $99.

Oh dear. If this isn't proof that these bands (Metallica especially) stopped giving a shit about their fans a long time ago, I don't know what is.
None of them are worth the money anymore. If I lived within walking distance of the venue, I'd still tell them to go fuck themselves.

FUCK 'EM ALL! What the fuck is this....lol! And I was hoping for at least one Canadian date... Shit these guys are slaves to their management... Fucking whores...And I'm being polite. 100 US bucks to see a bunch of has-been play a bunch of tracks we all heard 1 000 000 000 000 X 10 000²³ times in a town of California I never heard of before which is probabbly a suburb of SF. I hope they play in an empty arena, that would maybe help them realize they lost the plot a long time ago, especially Metallica$h.

Lol, nice article.
I can't believe they got everyone excited a day before just to announce one fucking date... Although I live within fairly short driving distance of this place, I'm still not sure of I'll even go...

Considering all the bands are american, you'd think there'd be a more extensive tour...

Really after 30 years of playing some of the greatest Thrash of all time, getting your start here in America where you are from. And all you have to show for it is giving us one date of The Big Four?? Europe gets 3 shows with thousands of people, and we get only one live show. I just don't understand this at all, you guys should do a North American Tour.. not a North American Show.. Big difference! Definitely show how much you guys appreciate us in the long run!

This is pretty fucking pathetic. the US is their home country and they're only playing 1 show, and its a club show. thats a big "fuck you" to their American fans.
i'd rather see the true big 4: Testament, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, and Trivium.

I hate this as much as everyone else here. Complete bullshit they would announce BIG FOUR TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED TOMORROW and then tell us there is only one, and it is on the West Coast. However saying stupid shit like
Quote: Oh dear. If this isn't proof that these bands (Metallica especially) stopped giving a shit about their fans a long time ago, I don't know what is.
^ Who knows what band, if any one in particular came up with this shitty decision. Maybe it was Slayer! Who knows. Usually, these bands are very good about live shows, but I am not sure what happened, but it just shows how much anti-Metallica feelings there are that ESPECIALLY Metallica is to blame...
And just for laughs...

This certainly appears to be a business ploy. Getting people excited for an announcement of one show? Seriously, who does that sort of thing? Not that I would be going, though. The big four minus Metallica stopped by my city in October, yet I didn't have much of a motivation to go because of, for instance, ticket price. I really don't feel a need to defend these actions by the big four. Besides, this isn't the 1980s or early 1990s.

To be honest, I think people are perfectly within their rights to claim Metallica don't care anymore. I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that they're all about maximum profit for minimum effort these days.
I mean everything they do comes with this huge hype built up by some massive marketing machine - then what they actually give us is some half-arsed 'going through the motions' bollocks.
They only ever tour properly when there's an album to promote (aside from the odd festival appearance, they hardly seemed to play any live shows between 2004 and 2009), and pretty much everything they've released in the past 20-odd years has either been some pathetic attempt to sell copies to the kids who follow the flavour of the month bands, or just sounded like they couldn't be bothered to actually write anything properly and just recorded the first thing they thought of.
Anyway, rant over... I never actually claimed Metallica were the band that prevented this from being a full tour. I just implied they seem to care least about their fans (which is a statement I stand by).
Any of those bands could be to blame. Maybe Megadave got fed up of supporting the band that sacked him? Maybe Anthrax can't guarantee they'll keep a full quota of band members any longer than april?
It doesn't really matter who's responsible though. The fact is, if those four bands (collectively) cared enough about the people that made them what they are, then one way or another they'd work out some way to play more than one measly show.
The whole 'big 4' tour has just been a cheap marketing ploy. Metallica (and to some extent the other 3 too) can tick a box and claim to the world they finally made it happen, then the world lap it all up and throw a truckload of cash their way (whether it be tickets for this, tickets for their own shows, merch or albums).
Personally, I'm expecting Metallica to announce a more extensive headline tour of their own after this happens. 3 big name support bands means 3 quite substantial portions of profit to hand over - and somehow I don't think Lars and co are keen on that.
This is the way I see things anyway. I know I'm not alone. I also know others see it differently. Whoever is actually right, I'm just glad all these bands are way past their prime so I can feel happier about my stubbornness.
