This is a tremendously underrated album.

I have been listening to a lot of DarkThrone last week, I had never listened to it before, because I wasn't into black metal... But it is really amazing.

I think Darkthrone used to play Death Metal before Euronymous twisted their minds.

Agree, I'm almost tempted to give it a 9 instead. Such an underrated album that it got the attention it deserved back in those days but because of extremely bizarre reasons, it slipped through the cracks of time and none really pays attention to it nowdays despite being one hell of an album specially during a time death metal was hella big and this album had the quality to stand shoulder to shoulder to some classics.

Wonderful riffs upon riffs... This entire album is riffest and Fenriz was brilliant at the drums if you ask me. Varied and powerful drumming.

Everytime I hear "Into the abyss I faalll", I feel the urge to go insane.

The grim atmosphere on this album reminds me a lot of Benediction's earlier albums. I wasn't actually expecting too much from this when I first heard it since I've only ever listened to Darkthrone's Black Metal era albums (From 'A blaze...' to 'Panzerfaust') as well as their latest, 'The underground resistance'. Most of the songs on here are just solid slabs of Death Metal, nothing else. The vocal effects can be terrifying to say the least, and the bass work is prominent throughout. 'Accumulation of generalization' and 'Nor the silent whispers' don't really do anything for me, but the album is generally a consistent one, and not a bad place to start with Darkthrone either.

Seriously underrated, yeah. It's their best I think. (But I guess that says more about what I think of Darkthrone, than of the quality of this album. No, but seriously, a very good one.) Blackened death I'd say.

A masterpiece of dark, atmospheric death! One of Darkthrone's best albums for sure. I've been listening to this one a lot lately.

Cromlech's outro solo is so sweet.

Average at best. Thank Baal they switched to black metal.

Knowing music industry how they went forvard I cant see what is special about it, not black, not death ... sad, but somehow as opener its weak, knowing what kind a awesomness came

If this usn't death metal for you than neither is Morbid Angel.

It's so weird to think that Darkthrone went from a crazy (at the time) polished and clean death metal sound to the sound quality of the black metal albums. You'd think it'd be the other way around and after 20 years, not (almost) overnight. Not to mention the punk albums now.

This is a killer death metal album too.

I think this could very well be my favorite Darkthrone record.

You explained perfectly why I respect this duo so much. Really love how they do whatever they want and go head-first when they try something new. Barely no "transition" albums.

Very underrated and totally solid death metal record.

I'm still of the opinion that this is the best Darkthrone release
