One of Tate's best performances vocally throughout this album. Great stuff!

Tate has a good singing voice hear. But seldom have I heard such safe music as the one Queensryche presents. Absolutely no bite at all, and in the end, just boring.

For me this is a good album, but I get the feeling that these songs could generally be a bit faster and/or heavier. As it is, the album does have some remarkably good songs: "Before The Storm" (catchy as fck), "NM 156" (a bit faster than most here) and "Roads To Madness" (boring start, but gets better later). Still I prefer the EP.

This is their best for me. The band and the hardcore fans probably dont agree, but the production (Guthrie) on this album isnt as bad as stated. And its way more epic than the other albums.

Lots and lots of great riffs here and some insane vocals by Tate. USPM at it's finest!

The vocals are indeed great, and its a skill to show off those vocals so hard without being cheesy. One of few hm albums I still listen to, its still as good as it was back then.

Of their full lengths I must say that this is my favorite as well of their albums.

This is who inspired Fates Warning. I haven't read it or don't know if it's true but I believe so.Queensryche's early days were way better than Fate Warning of course.

early FW was visibly influenced by Iron Maiden, more than Queensryche.

I guess most bands were influenced by Maiden. I have been listening to Queensryche for years and although I've heard of Fates Warning and was familiar with their first 3 record only, I never heard the later albums. What I also meant to say is that if you would play me 80's Fates Warning then I would say it sounds like early Queensryche.
The latest Fates Warning record is my favorite so far and I would say they don't sound like Queensryche as much anymore.

Highly ambitious and years ahead of its time. Around this time progressive metal wasn't even a thing and they were already making a concept album with top notch songwriting and stuff. Roads To Madness is obviously the number one classic song on the album, the live version of Take Hold Of The Flame also a killer in itself, Geoff Tate was insanely good around this time. Allegedly the record label attempted to cut the costs by hiring some less experienced folk to finish the production and mixing, and the band felt they ruined the album. I wish they'd someday release a reworked edition or something the way it was originally meant to be.
