Kind of meh after some listens. Hey Joe and Purple Haze are good songs, from the others there is plenty to skip IMO.

Album was good before black and extreme metal came, in mid 90's and later classic album lost its values because heavy extreme bands takes over.

John's comment might have been related to the fact that you relate this 1967 rock album to black and extreme metal albums from the 90s -- which does appear a bit odd to me, too, if I may say so.

Yes, as teenager I did liten classics. In last 10 years only rare cases, .... new metal comes often

I agree and that's why I have returned to it many times even if I don't enjoy many of these songs to a high extent. Jimbo's guitar playing was more the point for me than the songs when it comes to this album.

To me this is one of the most important and influential albums of all time. Jimi had created a style of rock of his own, it was the beginning of what was to become hard rock, don't forget this is 1967, it sounded very heavy for it's time and his style is extremely flamboyant, influencing the likes of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, and rivaling Eric Claptons Cream at that time.

Although the likes of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and black Sabbath were more established as hard rock bands, which would have an influence on heavy metal, this album was realised a few years before them, so Jimi Hendrix must of influenced Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and Tommy Iommi in some way.

Very influential upon all music and guitar, but that alone is not a reason to give out 9s and 10s.

With the influence aside, for me "Manic Depression", "Fire", "3rd Stone From The Sun", "Are You Experienced?", "Hey Joe", "Stone Free", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary" are all fantastic songs still to this day 55 years later, the rest for me is still pretty solid.

Maybe not, but still it weighs a lot. I also think the high ratings are there because people love this album, love the song-writing and performance.

Of course. I just don't find every song that great, actually only a few.

This definitely isn't much of an album compared to the two masterpieces that come after it. About six songs are some of his best work, but out of 17 other average songs that's not much.
