I was never and I know that I never will be a fan of Within Temptation, but this is one album of the Dutch band that I really like and consider one of the rare jewels of symphonic gothic metal. Back in those days their music sounded less glossy and more sincere and touching.

I disagree with two of your counts.
This is not a "great" album and it is also not a "2" (your vote as of now).
But I agree that there is not much gothic to find here (any more), this is symphonic metal.

Every time I see that album cover my brains tell me it's young Dave Mustaine on the cover and I expect the content to be superb, but sadly neither is true.
