A lot of Amon Amarth's in there. I didn't hear any Black, this is a typical Melodeth (without much keyboards) or Death Folk Metal album. Good musicianship...but I didn't like it, it's just lacking of "kicks".

In some way I think (don't get me wrong, still good album) they wanted to simply copy previously but forgot to write catchy and outstanding song like ''The Shield wall''

Title track is the epitome of the genre. Every time I listen to it I just feel like battling. Battling all night. What a song.

Close call between an 8 or a 9 (I've just had coffee and I'm feeling generous so a 9 it is!) Regarding the similarities with Amon Amarth: Amon Amarth use mostly tremolo-picked leads, downpicked pedal tone riffs and powerchords. Forefather use more arpeggio leads and barre chords. Really, the only similarity is in some lead voicing and the viking themes.
