Good news for me - I was thinking on buying "Host" album like... two weeks ago. Yes, it's more like industrial gothic/rock than metal, but still - love it. And yes - I also love their more metal stuff (digibook of "Faith Divides Us..." is amazing!)

I love how diverse PL's discography is and Host is one of my favourite albums by them. Will definitely be getting this on vinyl

I perfectly remember the huge disappointment this was when originally released, for me it was just a really lame Depeche Mode rip-off (and I love DM).
I also remember Holmes and Mackintosh repudiating their early times and stating that their performances and composition skills in ''Host'' were way better than in the previous records
Fortunately enough they went back to a more metal style, not sure if they did because either they wanted to play it again or sales were decreasing... And to make it clear, not that I'm close-minded, I like bands evolving and trying new things, it just happens that in Paradise Lost's case it didn't work IMHO.
Anyway, no need for me to re-release this.

You guessed it good with the first part. They sold out on One Second, but the formula failed by the time they released Believe in Nothing. What better method than to go back to your roots when the 'million dollar recipe' failed? Then again I can't really blame PL. FDU-DUS and The Plague Within were great albums for a band that struggled for 15 years to make a decent album.
Host was not an attempt to evolve, unless you consider turning from homo sapiens into an amoeba as evolving. I am baffled in regards to why Host gets a remastered version, considering that the production quality of this album was squeaky clean, like with every pop album (yes, it is pop). Then again nowadays this album tends to get an unusual level of respect, which for me is unjustified.

I agree with you this album doesn't need to be remastered. For the rest of your post, we already discussed about that before, I'll leave it at that (and I do not mean that in a negative way, I am just stating).

I don't see the point in remastering it either. Or perharps they'll try to rewrite history by giving it some heavy sounding guitars'n stuff?
Anyway, I agree with when he says it's one of the band's strongest albums.

Would like to hear it before buying because I don't see the point of a remaster either.

I felt there weren't that many changes. A bit crisper and colder, a bit more emphasis on guitars, but more noticably Nick's voice seems to have been put more in the background.
Will be curious to hear the whole new album, but so far that does seem pretty useless - except some more well-deserved promotion for a much maligned album (and I know the bands still considers it to be one of their best works)

You know a band is not only out of ideas but all about the money when they start to re-release stuff :

as always, we don't know who started it. Might be the band, might be the label, or both
