I'm not sure what they were going for here but this production choice is odd to say the least. The instruments are paper thin with the exception of some bass guitar and heavy cymbal work. It makes it difficult to focus on whether the songwriting is actually any good. I remember quite liking their sound back in the day but maybe I've outgrown it -- or they've changed and I just haven't listened to their earlier material recently enough to compare.

At least there are some intricate solos and their songs do a decent enough job building up to them. I just can't properly appreciate them with the way it's been mastered.
