Vektor - Posts Statement Addressing Allegation

Vektor have had quite the odyssey lately, being dropped less than 24 hours after being signed by Century Media Records due to the backlash that came as a result of mainman David DiSanto getting accused of domestic assault. Though these was little in terms of in-depth explanation from David previously, recent events led to him posting a video statement, which you can find below, along with a transcript that was posted alongside it.

The transcript: "Hello, this is David DiSanto of Vektor. I just want to take a couple minutes to set the record straight about the rumors surrounding me. I had hoped the allegations against me would eventually go away, but due to the band recently losing a record deal with Century Media because of the misperceptions about me, it’s time I addressed everything clearly for everyone. I apologize for my initial response in 2019 and my silence that followed. It was too much for me to handle at the time. So, now I want to clarify to our fans what’s actually going on in that dark, horrible video swirling around the internet.

"This little guy (my dog, Sprinkles) set off a chain of events that I never could’ve imagined. In early 2019 he was still being potty trained, and he left a little poo on the stairs in the middle of the night after I had gone to bed. It was around midnight when I was woken up by my wife standing next to the bed repeatedly slapping my head, pulling my hair, and digging into my chest with her nails, screaming and yelling at me to pick up his poop immediately. I kept telling her to “leave me alone”, “it can wait until the morning”, but she wouldn’t stop after what seemed like 30 minutes. I finally stood up and was cornered against the wall between the bed and my dresser. I asked her to move so I could do the thing she was asking, but she wouldn’t budge and kept instigating and escalating the situation. So, I picked her up and moved her onto the bed, out of my way, so I could get by. I then threw a pillow and reiterated to her, “leave me alone”.

"That is the truth and reality of what took place before and during that video. Some people might not think that’s a very big deal, but I want to make perfectly clear that I am truly sorry and embarrassed for how I reacted to that situation. Having my personal life being exposed to complete strangers has been a big opportunity for me to learn and grow. These past few years have humbled me to my core. Like so many others, I was caught in a toxic relationship and felt like I was trapped and couldn’t get out. I hope all the people that go through that find the power to heal themselves and move forward with their lives. That’s what I’m trying to do.

"As for other rumors getting passed around online, there are no continued legal battles going on between my ex and myself. Our divorce was finalized in 2021 and it was very standard as far as divorces are concerned. We divvied up our assets and went our separate ways. I don’t have any kind of criminal record. I certainly have never been charged with any type of domestic violence. The mugshot that people are passing around is from a completely unrelated event from 2013 where I splashed beer on a Christian protester who was antagonizing the crowd at Scion Metal Fest in Memphis. I wasn’t charged for anything regarding that either.

"Hopefully, people will eventually be able to judge us on our music and not our personal lives: my personal life. I’m continuing to better myself every day in all aspects of my life. It’s a shame that we lost a record deal because of lies and slander, but we’ll keep doing our best, continue to grow, and rise above the challenges.

"I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my side of the story and how these events truly unfolded. On behalf of myself and Vektor, we look forward to your continued support and understanding about this matter. Thank you."

On the one hand I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but on the other, the bettering myself comment reminds me of Scott Kelly's "apology" and explanation over his domestic abuse.

From Youtube comments:

"A close friend of mine was harassed relentlessly by David's ex-wife. She is a complete nutcase and was known for being a bully to other girls in the metal scene in Atlanta for years. It's insane to think anyone would actually take her side in this."

Rumours, sure. Just reminder for people screaming WIFE BEATER without any evidence, that there are two sides of a coin.

Also, cut the crap and make some music!

Century Media have really outdone themselves this time! what a shame for them to succumb to the pressure of an ignorant crowd! Vektor basically had a record deal that would make them more relevant in the metal scene, but here comes CMR supporting the cancel culture (without any evidence of course) and ruining their big opportunity. I am not saying there aint no domestic abuse among metal musicians cause there is, but there are also a lot of false accusations from mostly women involved (especially in the US) which tend to destroy male's personal life due to the fact that most people judge before they think and don't give a benefit of a doubt to a person accused of misbehaviour. CJ McCreery was kicked out of Lorna Shore because what later seemed to be a false accusation by psycho ex gf. It basically ruined his career.

So the bottom line is they were dropped by Century Media because a puppy called Sprinkles sprinkled its poop on the stairs?

There's always two sides to every coin, but from his statement, it sounded like she started it with the physical abuse. Let's say his statement is the true statement, she was hitting him over something she could have done in a few seconds. But sure, I don't know them personally, maybe behind the scenes they were as bad as each other, but from all the comments I've seen around his statement, he's getting the "He's a peice of shit" comments while the wife isn't even being mentioned about the alledged slapping and hair pulling.

And yes, I think it's unfair that the band get dropped from the label considering the rest of the members are being punished for nothing, but then you look at the Norwegian black metal scene with the murders and church burnings, Tim Lambesis and the hitman incident, Dagon from Inquisition and the child porn that was found on his computer. All of those incidents are worse than what David alledgely did, but they still get the label deals and exposure. Not saying what David did was right, not saying hitting women (or anyone for that matter) is okay, but the punishment for the band as a whole is harsh, considering CM has MAyhem on their books after all the shit they used to get up to.

I really wish people would put a little more thought into a matter before judging. Simple judging is always easy and only shows that you have an opinion - but not its quality. So in the end only those are heard who have presented their agenda most aggressively - just to be observed all over the world.

In a next step, as a man, I would like to see men stop merely showing solidarity with women - because that is just as clumsy and easy. If something is to get better, every man must first emancipate himself and learn that he can also be uptight, shy, empathetic, soft, poor, unsuccessful and tender, just like all the other qualities that are typically attributed to men. That would be real progress. Solidarity is easy, but women no longer need to be protected and encouraged by men - men just need to stop being assholes. Even among themselves.

Let's see if you are able to change your mind by hearing my story...
I had a girl move in after 2 years of being in a relationship. I was away about half of the time, staying overnight at hotels because of work so I didn't really know what she was doing during that time. After about a year of living together she started acting crazy and drinking heavily. I understood that that had been going on behind my back while I was at work, but now she couldn't control it anymore so it happened even when I was home. She would disappear after work and come home in the morning or the next day. If I was home at that time, she would rage out at me for completely made up things like cheating, stealing, hitting her and what not. Then she'd start physically abusing me, sometimes without warning. I woke up a few times to her strangling me or punching me in the face. Each time she abused me, she made sure that I knew what would happen if I fight back. She had really sketchy friends and she was a master of manipulation. Something both me, her family and friends realized only later. Now why wouldn't I leave? Well, because of fuckers like you, who automatically assume that a woman is correct and needs protection from evil men abusing them. And she portrayed me as the asshole hitting her. But that's not the only reason for me staying. I actually tried to help her, and I had her go see psychiatrists several times and tried to get her to stay sober by finding and engaging her in hobbies. I was still planning to leave when she would get her head straight. That never happened. One morning she came home drunk as hell and I was leaving for work. I opened the front door and she kicked me in the back and I fell down a flight of stairs. I was lying on the ground and she jumped on top of me and started hitting me. So I punched back. Once. She got up, started crying and called all her friends and they convinced her to file a report. She waited until she sobered up and went to the police station. Now what she didn't know was that I had called the cops 2 times before when she was so drunk that she couldn't even remember. Both times I had injuries that were reported by the cops but I didn't press charges. I had also recorded some of her ranting without her knowing and it turned out that she had two assault sentences from before which I didn't know about. I wasn't charged for anything and I left her. She died of an overdose 2 years after that. Now, let's imagine that I hadn't called the cops, and I wouldn't have had the recordings? And people like you would have treated me as guilty? I would've lost my job and I'd be in jail right now. But I did raise my hand to a woman, so by your logic that would've served me right, or?

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I can understand your pain very well. I was in a manipulative co-dependency myself for seven years and during that time I had to bring her to psychiatric hospitals several times because she wanted to take her own life. I must admit I never raised my hand to her, but to be honest the majority of those seven years have been one mental breakdown after another for both of us. And of course, even though she is still alive today, I still wasn't able to effect a positive change in her. Nevertheless, it has made me a better and stronger person and I do not regret having resisted all adversities and simply having done the humanly right thing. People are complex, situations are complex - none of this can be resolved with a simple answer.

Once my mother, after an argument with my stepfather, slapped him, and in return my stepfather slapped her back.

So my stepfather hit my mother, but was he guilty?

That was years ago, they are still together and still get along very well, it was just a rare argument that rarely escalated. My mother actually thinks she totally deserved the slap she received in return.

Yes, we shouldn't hit women, but really, we shouldn't hit anyone.

It reminds me of when I was a kid, the girls at school would tell me "we don't hit girls", to which I would reply "no, we don't hit anyone".

By the way, once, my sister made a scandal with my father, she was in the middle of a teenage crisis, I must say. My father went to look for her and she hid in the locked toilet. She called my mother, thinking that my father wanted to hit her. My mother, even though separated from my father, still got along very well with him and could not conceive that my father would hit my sister. She came anyway, and once she understood the story, it was my mother who slapped my sister ahah. I was a witness, I can tell you, my sister had really gone crazy.

I should specify, my mother was not at all violent, and the rare times when we took slaps, it was often deserved from us (when we fought between us for example to calm us), although obviously some were not ahah.

We all get along very well nowadays, it was just isolated anecdotes with no consequences in our family life.

But all this to say that a little nuance doesn't hurt and don't judge a story if you don't know the details or the version of facts of all parties. Don't be quick to judge others. And know how to forgive those who deserve it, resentment is a bad habit.
