Myrkur’s gradual transition from folk black metal to just folk reached a natural conclusion with 2020’s Folkesange. This project hadn’t yet stood still between releases, but the next steps were unclear; would future releases see a return to the metallic sounds of earlier records, or would Amalie Bruun continue to take Myrkur further away from its original sound? As it turns out, she isn’t yet finished with metal.

Overall I'm pleasantly surprised. The voices are really beautiful, I especially like Valkyriernes Sang. The production is strangely dirty and faraway, but it serves the atmosphere. The folk moments have enough melodic and harmonic clutch to be interesting. The black is here to help with momentum, although it's seldom.

Beautiful record and a great evolutionary step in the discography. The singing is gorgeous as is the production.

Even though short, it is very good and unpredictable. Every time I listen to it I discover details I missed before. Sneaky album!

This album and the lady who conceived it, kick *ss: haunting vocals, heavy and slow at the right moments. I'm gladly spinning this as it makes my headphones unrecognizable when compared to listening to much metal of late.
