When we think of metal from Iceland, undoubtably we think about black metal or something more dark and deep than power metal. Therefore, it is not very usual to hear about power metal bands from Iceland, which in itself made this release special, but Power Paladin made it even more special for the quality and dynamics they delivered to this album.

With The Magic Of Windfyre Steel is a well-structured album that few within power metal have managed to make in recent times. The sound is quite melodic, but based on speed metal and heavy metal, with a special heavy touch in the tracks where Óskar Rúnarsson participates. The production is exceptionally well done and for one moment, we thought we are listening to a band with more experience than they really have. The sound is very professional and very well played, and makes us want to see them in a live concert to verify the quality of what we hear in the album.

The lyrics are also a strong point, with each song completing itself and with themes in the style of power metal, reminiscent of Rhapsody or Twilight Force albums. Part of the fun of this album is trying to understand all the cultural references, based around popular fantasy novels and films. Talking about concerts, it will be fun to see and sing together all the catchy songs they offer to us.

This debut album by Power Paladin is very good and promises an interesting future if they continue on this path of epic and classic power metal.
