17 minutes of South Korean female-fronted hardcore. 'Nuff said.

Ok, it is never enough said if you actually have to write a review about it. But I'll keep it short.

Slant (not to be confused with Slint) is, as previously stated, a hardcore band from South Korea. And I admit that I barely listened to any music from South Korea that isn't Jambinai or whatever BTS song comes on the radio. And also, I haven't actually searched for much hardcore music that wasn't released back in the day. Because most of the "hardcore" music that is recently released and I listen to has come a pretty long way from its origins, either in a more chuggy, macho or melodic direction. And I'm not saying that it is a bad thing that hardcore evolved a lot in these decades. But that when I say that Slant is hardcore, think Minor Threat not Hatebreed.

So here we have 17 minute of retro sounding hardcore, most akin to the D.C. and Boston scenes, where the piercing vocals are the only part that feel just a bit more in line with the more extreme branch of hardcore that has been growing since. But as a whole, there is an energy in this album that would usually only be captured in a live performance. And for this performance-deprived writer, that is what I was looking for. It completely lacks any sense of originality, instead choosing to go all in on showing what made the original sound so appealing. Nothing complicated. Nothing shocking. Just pure rebellious energy.

The production perfectly captures the live-ready energy that this has, the performances are tight all around, with special props to the rasping vocalist, and the economical songwriting ensures that there isn't any moment where you don't feel like you're getting what you came for. The perfect balance between fun and anger.

God, I just wanna mosh pit again.

Remote moshing innovations coming straight up. This sounds like my kind of braindead fun. The music, not remote moshing. That sounds dull.

Whenever I write something funny, weird, or pretentious... I learned English by playing Baldur's Gate, okay?
