What can be better than a big doze of emotional collapse, slow-chewing Doom Metal in Demo-format? Not much if you ask me.
And that's exactly what these young French are giving us.
Slow, emotional and atmospheric Doom Metal, god I love it.
Lethian Dreams was formed back in august 2002 by Kyrinla & Lethe (both vocals & guitars), and was called Dying Wish (after the song "A Dying Wish by Anathema).
The first songs that was composed, "They Will be Done" & Last Winter Night" is both on the first demo that was recorded and released 2003, and for the last song on that demo, "Mournful Whispers" (That's also the demo name), and three new members was joined, Darkened (keyboards, Death Metal voice), Kweletsy (Bass) and Valtyr (Drums).
And with Darkened on Death vocals Lethian Dreams created some kind of Beauty and Beast way of singing, very usual, but very effective.
In the beginning of 2004, Lethian Dreams lost their first member; Kweletsy quitted in lack of motivation, and was replaced by Theli.
And some new songs was written and a second demo saw the light of day in early 2004, "Lost on Grief".
This second demo gives us 5 new songs, one of 'em is a intro, and already there you'll hear what this is all about, slow, very slow, Atmospheric Doom Metal with both growls from hell and angelic voices from heaven.
All the songs is good, no doubt, but there is one that I want to bring forward some extra, it's the forth song, "Taking Away My Sanity", the riffs in the beginning gives me goose pimples.
And then what's follow is hard to describe in words, the total feeling of emotional collapse is so close, it's like an fallen archangel laying at the edge of life and death and seeing his only true love dying a slow and painful death at the other side of the edge, but his broken wings can't take him there, his legs it useless, he can just lay there, watch her slowly die and cry out in vain.
As you understand the tears are near, the sadness is endless.
I think you'll now understand that this isn't a album (Demo) you should listen to if you want to feel any better, because this IS sadness, this IS sorrow, and I love it.
I guess my funeral now it near, but with inspiration like this, I think it's going to be nice, hehe.
What I meant was that I find this demo very good, and very impressed about what Lethian Dreams are offering us, and I'm very curios what they could do with a record deal and a bigger budget.
I really hope that what's waiting Lethian Dreams in the future, because I think they are going toward a very bright future (or the opposite, to be correct, right?).
Favourite Songs: All is good, but in especially "Taking Away My Sanity", It's Death written all over it.
