Hey, it's MOAR femme-fronted fuzzed-out retro stoner doom! Something which I used to scoff at, largely for "cult of personality" projects named after the female vocalist, oft with the album as well, just seemed more a marketing strategy. Now I get a steady diet that feel more "organic" in nature. Rosy Finch, Hela, Grajo... and add Deathbell to the list.

Earlier this year, my Professor of Doom, the master of Brolly-fu, Marcel sent me a list of stuff to check out, including With The Beyond. I happily went about the due diligence (doom diligence?) of running down the list and have subsequently found Deathbell, hailing from our own Momo's backyard in Toulouse, France, as a regular choice for my late-night beer-fueled hazy hour fuzzed out soundtrack.

So yeah, most the descriptors you need are right in the first sentence of the review. Not sure there is terribly much more by way of keyboard acrobatics needed. The vibe is that of laid back, groovy fuzz-distorted riffs with some keyboard backing at slow-but-not-coma-inducing pace in a room with a heavy marijuana smoke-haze and plenty of black lights. It's fucking Doomchill. The riffs are pleasantly toasty. The vocals are well done, without being over the top in neither the mix nor "theatrics" with the singer showing off her range by hitting notes only dogs can hear. Again, it's Doomchill.

This is the kind of album I'd play after the party was over, after the wimps and posers left the hall and I just wanted to knock back cervezas with my close friends and relive old glories for a few more hours.

That would be a hell of a lot of words to describe the feel, vibe and doctor-prescribed use of the record, not a lot on the technical aspects or musical specifics. That's the kind of album it is. You can just kick back with some COld ones, some amigos and just enjoy the ride.

Get your doomchill on at Bandcamp. And save a seat and a cerveza for me.

Nice review! Will check'em out - don't know them yet, seems they're pretty new indeed - even if the style isn't my cup of tea glass of beer.

You can always count on the Dutch and the COld for some good doom. This is cool stuff. Cheers

It's been a while since I listened to them, so it might not be an entirely accurate comparison, but the first band that came to mind whilst listening to this was Windhand, probably because of the vocals as Deathbell aren't as slow as those guys. It didn't blow me away, but it definitely had its moments, with the outro of Over The Rim really hooking me

This is what I wrote for a certain webzine "...vocals which more than once come across as a less powerful version of Windhand's Dorthia Cottrell."
