After a bullet in the head called Crowned In Terror, the Swedes of The Crown owed their fans an album at least as good. It was a hard goal. But they had several reasons to succeed: first, after the episode Tomas Lindberg, Possessed 13 is the occasion to celebrate the comeback of Johan Lindstrand in the band. Even if, in the words of the bands, this has not influenced the music, the return of the Evil Master has brought an old alchemy back. Besides, 2003 is the year of the thirteenth birthday of the band.
This is a milestone, so the band obviously decided to get back to the very roots of The Crown. Thus, they have launched old forgotten riffs out of the closet [if you can get the limited edition bonus cd you will hear that some of the riffs of the demos are used as bases for the new tracks], and recorded it with the rawest, dirtiest and creepiest sound possible. And the result is dark, frightening [like the instrumental 'Dream Bloody Hell'] and definitely death metal. As a paradox, it is probably their most achieved album to date.
It is at the same time more melodic ['Bow To None'], darker, heavier ['No Tomorrow'], more groovy ['Cold Is The Grave'] and almost as violent ['Kill'em All'] as their previous masterpiece, even if the speed furious songs like 'World Below' and 'Drugged Unholy' have disappeared. But instead, Johan Lindstrand's vocals are more varied and even more thrashy than the hysteric screams of Tomas Lindberg.
Without any possibilty of being called sellouts, The Crown has written thirteen songs that will be sticked in your brain like nails in a coffin after two listenings [for example 'Face Of Destruction- Deep Hit Of Death' or 'Natashead Overdrive']. These guys are the specialists of the killer-riff that annihilates the competition.
As Johan Lindstrand screams :'There is no way out'... Don't resist you cannot escape this bulldozer.
