If you're looking for Cosmic-themed, Space-y Black metal, would Cosmic Church be a name that would grab your attention? Of course it would. Which is why I think Cosmic Church should change its name. Because it sucks. And I do not like getting disappointed by awesomely named bands with sucky music. It's just wrong.
It's wrong!
Arcana Dei II - Tuliset Siivet is today's topic and it's got every you'd expect from Black metal, morphed into a perfect cliché of 'Cosmic Black metal'. Harsh, harsh, harsh guitars, harsh, harsh, harsh shrieks (mixed into the background), inaudible drums which don't add much anyway, plus bass. Wait, bass? Where? Oh, and reverb. Reeeeeeeevvvvvvvveeeerrrrrrb. Old Burzum, ridden of all the hatred, sad about the death of his family (in his latest Sims game, that is), set in a small hangar - that's what we're looking at here. Oh and let's not forget: printed on a cassette. Oh boy.
Ok, so technically, it's not all that bad, it's just very boring. And mediocre. And generic. And bland. And a waste of time. There's one highlight and that is the solo-esque lead guitar that pops up somewhere in "Kirkkaus", but even for a highlight it's pretty lacklustre. So, uhm, yeah, uhm... bye bye.
I'm going home.
