Testament Ranked

Testament is one of the greatest band in the US Thrash metal scene , along side Exodus, Overkill And Death Angel it is part of the second row of the big four.

Created by: Blackcrowe | 26.04.2024

1. Testament - The New Order
1988 The New Order was the album that broke Testament into the thrash metal mainstream, back by its only single "Trial by Fire"
2. Testament - Practice What You Preach
1989 This record was achieving near gold status and becoming the band's first album to enter the Top 100 on the Billboard 200
3. Testament - The Legacy
1987 The debut record. Testament was known as Legacy. Their lineup consisted of singer Steve "Zetro" Souza, guitarists Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson, bassist Greg Christian and drummer Louie Clemente. Singer Chuck Billy was a member of another local band named Guilt.
4. Testament - Souls Of Black
1990 Testament has rarely played any songs from Souls of Black live since at least 1991; out of the album's ten songs, "Face in the Sky", "Falling Fast", "Souls of Black", "Absence of Light", "Malpractice" and "The Legacy" were showcased during its accompanying tour.
5. Testament - The Gathering
1999 This was the first album featuring new musicians Steve DiGiorgio on bass guitar and Dave Lombardo on drums.
6. Testament - The Ritual
1992. On Ritual the band had more time to work on the album compared to their limited previous experience in recording studios: "We took the longest time to produce The Ritual. It was a much-needed change. It got to a time when we were pumping out a record every year"
7. Testament - The Formation Of Damnation
2008 The only studio album recorded with drummer Paul Bostaph.
8. Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth
2012 This album saw a reunion with Gene Hoglan, who played drums on the band's 1997 album Demonic. This album is anything but a rehashing of former glories. The skilled interplay between Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson, which features a wall-to-wall showcasing of intricate and harmonized runs
9. Testament - Brotherhood Of The Snake
2016 The album debuted at number twenty on the Billboard 200 chart, making it Testament's second-highest-charting album in the US, behind Dark Roots of Earth
10. Testament - Titans Of Creation
2020 It was released during the COVID 19 Pandemic. Testament would start working on their thirteenth studio album after they finish touring in support of Brotherhood of the Snake in August 2018
11. Testament - Low
1994 Released at a time when grunge and alternative rock were dominating the mainstream, Low marked something of a major departure from the classic sound
12. Testament - Demonic
1997 Musically and lyrically, this album is very different from anything Testament had released before, marking a deviation from previous albums to a much darker death metal sound mirroring the album's exorcism theme.

Cool ranking, I definitely agree that The New Order is Testament's best album. I would personally switch The Legacy with Practice and The Gathering with Souls Of Black but I mean we got the same Top 6 arranged differently. Not a big surprise for most fans of Testament I'm sure lol.

Also, I'm not the biggest fan of The Formation Of Damnation which I would probably put close to last.

Are you somehow suggesting that "The Gathering" is better than "The New Order" ? I'm sure you wouldn't voluntarily imply that... Right?

You bet your sweet bippy I would. The Gathering is pretty much Testament's M16/The Antichrist/Violent Revolution, with a revitalized sound (probably thanks to the inclusion of Lombardo and DiGiorgio), meanwhile The New Order was disappointing after the amazing debut and is mostly filler with two or three good songs and an AWFUL fucking Aerosmith cover.

Blasphemy at best, except for the Aerosmith cover, you're right about that it's terrible. Only that though. 2 or 3 good songs? Please... Disciples Of The Watch, The Preacher, Into The Pit, Trial By Fire, Eerie Inhabitants... Legit baffled by that statement.

Like 3 of their top 5 most played songs live are from The New Order. 4 from that same album on the top 10 which makes it essentially the album that has the most songs played live consistently and has the most representation. Not even gonna go deeper than that in popularity stats, I really don't need to. It's absolutely legit that you prefer The Gathering though, it's a great album tbh.

But do not disrespect The New Order you filthy mönkey!

The gathering it is a great record actually is gonna be my 6th but in the last years a little bit tire of the ritual and the gathering sound fresh. I know for the new listeners the gathering probably is the number one or the top 3 at least

I have a special predilection for the new order but the aerosmith cover doesn’t improve the record in fact the song sounds pretty good on Testament. I think they don’t have enough songs to fill the record but in the end I don’t mine really

The songs on new order are in the top of every Testament fan I think 4 or 5 songs of the record still playing live by the band.

"The Quaker"
I think Brotherhood and Damnation are better while for me Practice, despite the first record I've heard from them is not number 2 (not even top 5), otherwise it's well put. Also, Souls Of Black absolutely deserves some form or rework cause by far the production is the weakest point of that album.

Practice it is a great record no doubt about it, Souls Of Black is their best record musically but the poor sound and precarious production fails in what this record had too sound. The records after the The Gathering, to my ears sounds with an excessive production and too much studio processing it doesn’t matter if Steve D Giorgio plays bass or Gene Hoglan plays drums the mix sounds great but with too much of everything. The perfect mix and sound of Testament is on Gathering. Titans are great too the songs are power-full but fails in the production with all those effects and studio effects. Top to bottom Testament it is a great band and all the records are in the top from 10 to 7.5
