The Best Of Unorthodox Black Metal Within the past decade, black metal has seen bands from all over the world incorporating new sounds to the genre and changing its delivery like never before. As great as the classic bands are, BM bands today seem to be branching out in every possible direction. From the beautiful chaos of the French bands, to the developing psychedelic black metal style, and even the Avantgarde craziness of the Meads or work from Mories... all the experimentation is helping to create a bold new identity for the genre's sound. Black metal today could very well be the one area of metal where we see the most experimentation taking place, and I hope the albums in this list will illustrate this growing trend.

Crushing (Not For The Faint Of Heart) A little list of albums that have been kicking my ass as of late. Some albums on this list may appear to be "odd" choices, but "crushing" in this context does not necessarily mean heavy. It could be referring to the emotional intensity of the release or the literal heavy pounding sound. Hope you enjoy.
Note (1): More to be added as I see fit. Note (2): These albums are in no specific order, I have just been adding them as I see fit.

One-album Metal Wonders A list of bands who have released just one album. Feel free to recommend!
Edit: If the band released their debut album between 2014-present and they haven't split, they are not viable.

Rod's Favorite Use Of Samples! Sometimes, samples can improve the atmosphere of a song just as much as the instruments (or even more). This is a compilationn of some of my favorite samples in metal. I'm trying to keep it one album per band but exceptions are just fine. Oh yeah, I forgot something: I'm not gonna be too specific about where these samples are. It's way more interesting to discover them on your own!
Recommendations are welcome! Just don't get upset if I don't like them. D: Please write band AND album. Rec's awaiting evaluation: N.K.V.D. - Vlast Will Haven - Voir Dire The Monolith Deathcult - Trivmvirate Necrophagia - Deathtrip 69 Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre Ævangelist - De Masticatione Mortuorum In Tumulis Fantômas - Delirium Cordia Metallica - Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All Deicide - Legion Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre Tool - Lateralus, Ænima Impaled - Mondo Medicale Queens Of The Stone Age - Queens Of The Stone Age Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness Heathen - Victims Of Deception Fear Factory - Demanufacture White Zombie Strapping Young Lad - City Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip Nailbomb - Point Blank Impetigo - Horror Of The Zombies Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake Buzz*Oven - ...At A Loss Toxik - Think This Hell - Human Remains Machine Head - Burn My Eyes Bolt Thrower - Mercenary The Ruins Of Beverast - Unlock The Shrine, Foulest Semen Of A Sheltered Elite Agalloch - Faustian Echoes Alrakis - Alpha Eri Blacklodge - Solarkult

mz's Favs These are the albums which I like the most. Since I have not listened to a lot of albums( let's say, max 400 for me), it would be pretentious to make a list of my 100 favorite albums, so I keep this list short.

Low Tones In Kvlt: The Best Of Bass Black Metal Bassy black metal. Easy enough to understand: black metal with a distinctly pronounced role for the bass and in which the bass is noticeably audible.
Alphabetical order by band, one album per band. Recs appreciated and encouraged. Links for full streams when available.

Ranking the One-Album Wonders in Metal Some of the best metal albums ever released have been by bands that only had one full length release.
List is (and probably always will be) a constant work-in-progress. If you know of a "one-and-done" metal band/album that isn't on my list, feel free to recommend

Mz's Favorite Records Of Drone And Related Genres Still not finished, as I need to rearrange, check the links and also go through the genres again. I might have forgotten many good records. In addition, my knowledge of early industrial movement is very limited, so the list is lacking on that front. Many albums on the list might also not be considered drone in a traditional sense of the word, but they need the same sort of aesthetic appreciation I guess, so I included them. The most important criteria is that the albums should rely extensively on texturing, buildup, and musical landscapes rather that being riff based.

The Best Metal Albums* From A To # (L) This list is meant to be an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, collection of the greatest (modern) metal albums and eps. Running the gamut from avant-garde to trve norweigan black metal. *As someone who is young in age, my tastes tend to revolve around the period of the 80s to the present.* Although certain metal albums from before will certainly be featured, the period of the 60s-70s will be under-represented. I refer you to this excellent list to gain a better appreciation for some of the best metal from that period: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/freis/martin_popoffs_the_top_500_heavy_metal_albums_of_all_time/
All bands will be limited to one album unless they had a significant change in style (e.g. Amorphis and Katatonia). It goes without saying that as this is my personal list the genres that are included more than others expresses my bias and I am open to listening to any suggestions on additional albums to add. This list will be separated by letters as including them all in one list would make it overly long. Just to give you an idea: my personal collection is over 10,000 songs, most of them in the metal genre. Most of the bands featured here have other great albums so if you like the album featured here be sure to peruse their other works. Artists whose names start with 'The' or A/An' will be included in whatever letter follows, e.g. ' A Forest of Stars' will be included in F. This list(s) contains the most well-known bands e.g. Opeth, to the most obscure e.g. Vanguard x Mortem. The list(s) will be updated periodically. If you have trouble locating an album on this list or think I missed a particular album feel free to contact me, and share this list far and wide so that more people can benefit from the incredible array of musical experience metal has to offer. You can find me on all of these other websites: https://my.bio/friedrich-ux (Broke 10k songs!, onward to 20k...): https://imgur.com/a/PvgLCy3
