Best Of 1988… The Year That Defined My Metal Life

While 1987 woke me up to metal and I hoovered up the likes of Iron Maiden, Metallica and Helloween’s keepers, 1988 was my metal heyday and a year that produced albums that would still dominiate my top 20 list today. Lots of power metal and plenty of Noise Records!

1.Manowar - Kings Of Metal
2.Scanner - Hypertrace
3.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
4.Candlemass - Ancient Dreams
5.Riot - ThunderSteel

Metal Mascots

Mascots are an established and popular part of metal fan culture. In contrast to sports team mascots, they are no cute talismans, but are regarded as personification of the band and its music (or even as some kind of evil band member) that adds enormously to the identification of the fans with the band.

This alphabetical list presents well known examples by showing the album cover where the corresponding mascot first appeared, along with one or two sentences as general information.

Please feel free to suggest more examples of metal mascots or share relevant information on the presented mascots.

1.Alestorm - Captain Morgan's Revenge
2.Annihilator - Alice In Hell
3.Anthrax - Inside Out
4.Artillery - B.A.C.K.
5.Avenged Sevenfold - Waking The Fallen

One-Hit Albums

A (most probably incomplete) list of albums on which I really enjoy only a single song (in alphabetical order, excluding one-track albums).
They turn out to be albums that I rate a 6 or 7 overall -- with few exceptions.
The songs mentioned though are all-time favourites, which I would rate at 9 or 10.
I only listed albums on which I found exactly one such song.

1.Agalloch - Pale Folklore
2.Amorphis - Far From The Sun
3.Annihilator - Set The World On Fire
4.Asphyx - The Rack
5.Bathory - Blood Fire Death

Rage Albums Ranked. Best To Worst.

One of the hardest working bands in all of metal with one of the most extensive catalogues. Peavy has really been busy throughout his career and luckily most of the time he has surrounded himself without other great musicans that have helped Rage becoming one of the most reliable bands still around. Here's all the Rage albums ranked, also including some of the albums that was released under other names.

1.Rage - The Missing Link
2.Rage - Soundchaser
3.Rage - Speak Of The Dead
4.Rage - Black In Mind
5.Rage - Secrets In A Weird World

Best Metal Vocalists

*** /\ UNDER CONSTRUCTION /\ *** READ ME *** List of the best metal vocalists across all subgenres. The album that best exhibits their vocals will represent them -- not necessarily the best album they appear on. I will limit myself to the very top of each sungenre (i.e. death, black, doom, etc.) for variety's sake. Also -- AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT -- I consider several criteria, not just raw talent. Some of the criteria are vocal range, versatility, command of voice, fit/compatibility with band, feeling/emotion/energy and originality. Feel free to bitch and moan below. \m/

1.King Diamond - Abigail
2.Judas Priest - Painkiller
3.Savatage - Gutter Ballet
4.Iron Maiden - Powerslave
5.Queensrÿche - Empire
