Tired of Tolkien-inspired metal? Try Aeschylus-inspired metal! Who is Aeschylus? Let's just say he is often described as "the father of tragedy".

On my third listen of this now. Honestly, still not sure what to fully think about it. Parts of this are beautiful, soft, and dramatic but then other parts can slow down a bit too much to the point where the sound becomes limp.

Still, something about this grabbed me enough to where it stuck in my head a good long while after I finished listening, so I think that in itself bumps it up a few notches on my scale.

I only need to think about it and I already got some melodies from it in my head. But I agree that it's not without its defects.

The album is not yet mature, but some pieces are really good. Liked "Libation Bearers" and "The Furies" most

Before listening to Oresteia I had never even heard of Lotus Thief. Afterwards I wish I had, because this is pretty damn beautiful and haunting piece of ambient-whatever-metal. Simplistic, yes, but sometimes less really IS more.

Would have scored this 2 points higher if it were instrumental.

On my first listen I was confused and frustrated because I didn't know what to label the music as because I have little experience with the rock genre. After I settled on something I could finally give it another listen and listen to it comfortably throughout the entire thing without worrying what to call it. I would loosely call this metal but I am going to add this to my list of Top albums anyways because it's clearly influenced by it. The atmosphere in this is incredible (including the vocals). The main guitar melody in "Libation Bearers" is infectious.

Although it takes some getting into, this is a very impressive album. It's maybe a tad too slow in parts, but overall, the atmosphere and melodies are very well crafted, and the vocals are very well performed.
