At least magma did not have tribal sounds
I mean tribal sounds is kinda a Gojira thing ( not their original thing just something they do for a long time)
The Link as a whole is VERY tribal , The Art of Dying is kinda tribal , their debut has tribal elements

why "generic" ? the riffs are 100 percent Gojira
I agree that Into The Storm is a bit on the nose
There are few riffs that practically "grab me" like Magma did.
yeah , some Magma riffs are ultra-catchy

Had this on heavy rotation for the last couple of weeks, absolutely loving it! There's so much raw strength and resilience on this record, particularly on tracks like Hold On, New Found, and Grind - it's really given me a much-needed kick up the ass! The Chant and The Trails are both gorgeous (the former could go on for 20-minutes longer and I wouldn't complain because it's so enveloping) The rest is just good, heavy, catchy Gojira

Yes, but on those albums they were kind of nice, because they don't ruin the riff, they put it as an introduction.
With Nile it's the same thing

kind of a taste thing , not for everyone

It bothers me, and it kind of doesn't go for Gojira.
But as you said: it's a matter of taste.

I will give this album credit for the sole purpose that this album beat DJ Khaled for being the best selling album in America this week. Anything rock or metal that beats processed music like that is something I must respect.
It's actually more like bad sign for metal album if it's going that commercionaly popular. Especially for progressive death metal band.

It's bland at its worst, but I'd rather listen to this 100 times than anything from DJ Khaled.
And this is coming from someone who listens to pop music on the regular.

Who cares, commercially popular metal is rarely that great. It's not like this is a new development. We've had hair metal, nu metal, etc. I thought everyone by now stopped caring what was popular and cared more about what was good.
Overall it's just bland, at least it's not some bad stuff, just really mediocre.

It's alright. I think Fortiude and The Chant do not work at all, even if you take the rest of the record into context, Sphinx and Grind are unreal though and are almost certainly the only songs I'll return to.
Biggest letdown 2021 contender.

I think the commercial success cames alone, when you create a new sound who is such powerfull and genius like this. Nobody can resist to like it, but thats the way. Gojira go straight to the top of rock 'n' roll... The Time will come, when stop to rise, but this time is not yet. I like it !

I pride myself for being able to change my mind and I have to say that I now love this album. I stick by my previous comments, I still find it very sad and I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it and enjoy it. It just isn't the emotional rollercoaster that I usually immerse myself in which is the main reason why I love metal. But it is a solid album that I can listen to in its entirety. I can't say that for most albums.

I have to ask and I really wonder, what is new about the sound on Fortitude? I have not gotten a good answer to that question yet and I really want to know, because I can't see(well hear) it. I don't see anything new on this album. And don't get me wrong the performances are really good, but all I see is them putting all the ideas from their older albums together and make something that is anything but new.
But that is just my opinion, what do you think?

This is my first Gojira record so I'm going in with no previous opinion of the band, and I kinda liked it quite a bit. Sure the song structures are a bit repetitive, and I'm really not a big fan of "New Found", but overall I really like the atmosphere of the album, and overall catchiness of the tracks. "The Chant", "Another World", "Hold On" and "The Trails" are my favorite.

First Gojira album for me, so I'm biased.
Not a good start. Wish I could like this band.

I've seen discussion about when people were introduced to Gojira and how that affects what albums they'll like/dislike, and I completely agree. I was introduced to Gojira shortly after Magma came out and it became one of my favorite albums ever. I also like Fortitude quite a bit. I like their back catalogue and think From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh are in contention for their best work alongside Magma.
