Cryptic has a special place in Edge Of Sanity's discography as the only album to not feature the talented Dan Swano. To many fans this might be off putting and a reason to avoid the album. However the reality is of course, very different.

Cryptic is not an album for lovers of progressive Death Metal. It is an album for fans of dirty Death Metal with more in common with Entombed or Dismember's more melodic moments. In some ways it is closer to Death N Roll and Melodic Death Metal than pure Death Metal but it's still a heavy sounding album and certainly far more brutal than most of the Gothenburg crowd.

Dan Swano is not on this album. One can even hear he's not there.

I don't think I ever actually listened to this one before. It's quite an amazing album as Swedish old school death metal is seemingly one of those things that's impossible to do badly. The riffs seem to practically write themselves and it almost always sounds satisfying. This though somehow manages to defy that with some of the lamest and most forgettable riffs I've heard from the genre. I often wondered if this album was maligned because it lacked Swano. Now I know it's disliked because it's boring as almighty sin. The vocals lack conviction too, though I suppose they aren't bad.

Even after a lot of listenings, i still cant figure out how this album is bad in any way. It is not the typical edge of sanity album, i must admit. But it is slugy and groovy and with a touch of the death n roll vibe of this era. It has a crowbar style of tone and riffing, Its a different project and i like it. But, to agree wih you guys, its not edga of sanity. but as a crowbar fan, i liked what i hear.

Another underrated album by EoS. I don't understand how they have any albums below a 7 on here. I think they're one of those bands that made 3 near perfect albums, and when they don't make an album on that level, the fans end up being harsh on them. Might be the case that Dan Swanö is a miss too. These just don't have a bad album.

This album is 100% Edge od sanity for me. It is minimum a 8. Fill of pure EoS riffs. It is better tahn Inferno.
People is wrong when they think that Swano was Edge of Sanity. 50% of the songs were written by Andreas Axelsson.
