It's been over 50 years since the legendary progressive rock group, King Crimson, released their magnificent debut, In The Court Of The Crimson King, and this album is not only a progressive rock masterpiece, it is also considered by many, as well as myself, to be amongst the greatest albums in history to ever be released.

I can't believe that someone rated 1. Oh, I'm really sorry if this old ugly vapid non-metal album ain't true death viking harsh melodic transgressive enough for your tastes. Really really sorry.

King Crimson's albums, this one in particular, are sometimes referred to as 'proto-metal'. Also the impact this album had on 'Progressive' music is seen as fundamental to the genre, which would include Progressive Metal.

This may be THE perfect progressive rock album from the true fathers of the genre. I am quite impressed that this site features a small and discerning selection of non-metal bands and albums. Although King Crimson doesn't sound "metal," the epic and conceptual nature of In the Court of the Crimson King set a precedent that was eventually embraced by metal bands like Edge of Sanity, Opeth and Orphaned Land (to name just a few), and neo-progressive acts like Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, and Fates Warning. Thanks Metal Storm and, most of all, thanks King Crimson!

Can't believe this album is better rated than Red.

That's an interesting opinion. Why do you say that? [I'm not looking to make you angry or anything-- I just want to hear your opinion. I love both records, but I would say that Red is far more accessible to the listener than In the Court... if that helps you come to grips with why people may like this record more.]

To quote a Dr.Thaddeus Venture:
"No, no, no, you're not ready to step into The Court of the Crimson King. At this stage in your training an album like that could turn you into an evil scientist."

It's perhaps the mark that put a real start in the progressive rock era (even though proto-prog bands were great and all). It's not that uncommon for a band like this to be on MetalStorm since this is one, if not the, best metal communities in the internet (in a matter of taste and behavior, i guess).

Really great that metal fans can appreciate other genres.

The first album of king crimson like a new door to progressive genre in every track its like they have a special odd scent that its all over the album and a sadness that is always moving and its alive but it doesnt bother you but like flowing river takes u through world emotions and the music with all that jazz and electronics is very very unique
