Actually, I've changed my mind, because I realized this album is actually not grindcore. I hate being a genre elitist or whatever, but this is actually much closer to something I'd call thrash metal or hardcore. It doesn't have death metal elements and it is way more mid-paced, therefore it really isn't that grind. Still really awesome album though, I've heard it many times.

I think you're overthinking it. AnB have never had much death metal in their sound (and I don't consider that important anyway, look at Repulsion) and what you call thrash I would probably call more crossover influence. It's highly metallic but still retains the punk aesthetic, so this is easily a grindcore album, even if it thrashy. I certainly don't think pace is a factor.

I mean there is a lot of grindcore that is pretty much thrash and hardcore combined, not all of it is death, you are right, and I think you are also right about ANb never having death metal elements (I would actually call a lot of their previous works noisecore, noisey grind/powerviolence), but I still don't want to call this grind, even if it means thrash + hardcore kind of grind. I think the fact that it's so mid-paced has a lot to do with that. I think it is metallic and punky but maybe not grind.

But you are probably right, I am overthinking it which is completely unnecessary...

I'm not sure I would even call this that midpaced, at least not consistently. It had moments and songs, but that's probably because they were messing around with longer song lengths. There's different kinds of doom and black, and grind comes in different flavours too, so I'm not quite willing to boot this out the genre just yet

Yeah, it's spread out, but there are for sure songs and moments on here that are really slow (which makes for an awesome, sludgy sound, which at the end of the day shows that this album is great, regardless of genre).

That's an exceptional album cover and a decent album too, not as memorable or a good as FCSWD though.
