If I were to ask you what makes a great Metal band, the answer should be pretty much the same across the board: great albums. In truth, a series of great albums that follow the same structure yet manage to be different enough to be individual works while being similar enough to create a unique trademark sound. Do you see now how fine of a margin bands have to operate? Finland's Insomnium have established themselves as a juggernaut of Gothenburg Metal with a trilogy of sublime releases 2002's In The Halls Of Awaiting, 2004's Since The Day It All Came Down & 2006's Above The Weeping World. Then they managed to cleverly modernize their sound with 2009's Across The Dark. With a growing fan base and so many solid works behind them, their new release One For Sorrow has been one of the most anticipated albums of the year, and for good reasons.

One For Sorrow: the old children's nursery rhyme about counting up to ten birds in a tree. Makes sense for an Insomnium album to be inspired by it; after all, they've had these birds flying around in their album art for a while. Their fifth full-length respectively adapts to the rhyme with ten tracks of fairly varied Gothenburg metal in that trademark Insomnium sound.

Wow, it's in the top 200

Fuck that was fast. One of my favorite bands and a good album overall...but top 200? Come on people.

Not only top 200... it's in the 28th place... I mean.. what the fuck people?

It wont stay.....there are many more "less fanboy votes" coming in the near future

I'm not trying to be cool or anything (seeing as it is cool to hate on popular albums), but I just don't understand the hype. This is pretty much the metal equivalent of Pearl Jam, don't do anything unique or noteworthy but stay by the formula and achieve success...

This is almost identical to Across the Dark, but I guess if you enjoyed that I can't hate.

Didn't the same thing happen last year with Enslaved's 'Axioma Ethica Odini'? I remember it was real high up in the top 200 for a while now its not even there at all.

While not being 100% unique... AEO still deserves a bigger hype than this album which is just the same formula they've done since quite a while. I'm not whining btw, just making an observation. I don't really listen to Enslaved that much so I'm neutral

It happened to "The Great Mass" too. It was in the top 200 for a while but then all the 1-2-3-ratings punctually came and it was wiped out (don't get me wrong, I'm not a fanboy, I think it's a great work but the top 200 is maybe a bit too much). The same will probably happen to this, which is infinitely inferior to "Axioma Ethica Odini" imo.

Well it won't bother me if it goes down, I'm happy that at least it was in top 200, which means that the fans were very happy with it. Anyhow I prefer StDiACD, ItHoA and AtD over OfS.

Solid album, but not a hint of orginality to be found imo. Songs are catchy, but haven't we heard this before? Amon amarth anyone? Entertaining, but top 200 material: not in my book.

...cause the top 200 is so reliable...

Nothing is reliable on a website where users can vote, because it's all opinion-based and we all have different opinions.

But ya...the top 200 is a joke. The fact that every year we see at least a handful of new albums crack the top 50 only to be down-voted completely out of the top 200 is proof.

Ok, maybe I'm going a bit far. I like plenty of bands that continuously put out slight variations on the same album. I'll give it a better chance.

All these opinions on what should and shouldn't be in top 200 list. I am just curious, are there seriously people who give a f*ck about anyone else's rating? I thought music was about enjoying yourself and not about voting or "Top lists" or whatever. Please don't fill comments below Insomnium with this redundant sh*t, which no one cares about.

Yes they use clean vocal more on this album but they are not annoying at all, anyway I like the clean vocals on this one more than on ATD. in this one the guitarist Ville Friman do the clean vocals.

You probably won't enjoy this since the clean vocals are used more often; however, I found that their use felt more "warranted" and the improved songwriting makes it worth a listen on its own.

I don't get the whole "repetitive" argument alot. If you like previous work from the band then it would be logical to want more of the same, but in a slightly different jacket (I mean new songs but in the same style) Right? So what's the problem?

People hate on Insomnium for sticking to what they're good at. Other people hate on In Flames for evolving their sound at each new album.

Bottom line: it's impossible to keep everyone happy. Even all the "fans". So bands should just do their shit as they see fit. Keep it up Isomnium! This is yet again a killer album and I enjoy every second of it. I'll rate it when I've finally heard the full album on my stereo instead of these inferior MP3's. Damn mailorder that sent me a broken package...

I don't think anyone is hating on Insomnium for it, most the people who are saying its very similar to their old stuff are still rating it 8's and the like. Its still good just nothing we haven't heard before.

Speak for yourself, it's something I've never heard before

I say that if their 'formula' can produce albums as good as this again and again, then why not stick to it? I mean it's not difficult to notice there is a fair mass of formulas that don't work out there in the metal world, so why not preserve ones like this that do work, rather than risk losing them to mediocre attempts of originality? Not saying that the band couldn't do so, I have no idea, but I guess melo-death is hardly the first place to go to if you're looking for something really original.
