Since I discovered Vanden Plas in 1999, all their albums sound incredible to me. But, even if I was awaiting this one for a long time, I must admit that it's their best so far. All you need is in this release: musical balance, amazing guitar solos, splendid keyboards, powerful drums, perfect bass parts and finally fine vocals. You can add perfect artwork once again, the fact the 'Beyond Daylight' is a suite of hits, all making sense in listening to the last one , and finally a Kansas cover that rocks.

I can't put my finger on it but this one doesn't get my blood going as most other Vanden Plas albums. It's a good album but there's just something about the songwriting that leave something to be desired. The 10-minute title track and "Scarlet Flower Fields" is fantastic songs, great melodies in those as for the rest they are either "only" good or average.

EDIT: Yeah I have changed my mind completely about this album. It's brilliant all the way through!

Like me, it took a few spins to for it to reveal the true brilliance of this album, it's strange how that happens so frequent with new albums.. I wonder how many great albums we missed out on because we didn't give them enough spins to really let them sink in...

Sadly yes, but in the end there's too little time to give some albums too many chances.
