If you had a beer for every year it has been since Officium Triste released an album, you'd have consumed a six pack, which is about 2/3 of what each Marcel and I put down when we met up in Amsterdam and we spent a good chunk of time talking about how great this release was.

The Dutch death-doomsters are back and sounding better than ever.

Werry good album, good sound, songs typical OT sound,,,, I dont think anythink can change my mind, I already know what I will vote for in MS avards 2013

It's an enjoyable album but far too cheese-caked to be going anywhere near my end of year lists or votes.

"cheese-caked"? Sure, this album is very accessible and all, but come on. On the other hand, it's your opinion... I just disagree with it.

Indeed it is. To me this and the previous album are far too emphatically melodic and cheesy for me to completely enjoy.

Huh... I didn't hear much cheese and if I heard it, it was tolerable. Wonder what you think of While Heaven Wept which is to me one of the biggest cheese-fests in doom history.

I think While Heaven Wept are incredibly cheesy, intolerably so. This is tolerable but still far too sugary for my tastes. I usually enjoy this kind of melody-emphasis with a bit of an edge (which this doesn't have).

Wow, where the hell have these guys been all my life?! This is excellent doom, definitely in my top doom bands list. Very keen to check out the rest of the discography now.
At times some of the harmonies remind me of Draconian, especially "The Burning Halo" album/compilation/EP/re-mastered demo/whatever it is.
To some people complaining about its 'cheesiness', what exactly do you mean? I never really understood what 'cheesy' meant.

Honestly, I carefully listened to the album the other day and if you think this is cheesy, then A LOT of metal is cheesy. I mean, basically all power metal in existence is way more cheesy than this due to over-the-top emotional vocals.

Although I agree (as I said before) this is way more accessible than Reason and Ne Vivam, for example.

Well, yeah... most power metal kinda is. Most metal is.

I'm not sure if cheese is the strongest odor coming from this album, but it's definitely very sentimental and its sugary melodies are underscored. You know that part (chorus?), "you take me closer and closer to the edge/until I fall over"? It's like modern Dark Tranquillity or something, sticks out unfavorably.

That said, the album has its moments of brilliance too. I like To The Gallows, especially the clean vocals. It's never bad, but often it just lacks that doom gloom that I would like to hear. Nowhere near as good as, say, the latest Mourning Beloveth as far as melodic death doom goes. A solid 3/5 from me. Good, but not great.

Great album, but little weaker for OT standards, but its still good, diferent, in own genre, so far no same rip off copy albums as BS 13 from this band, and I like it , when band will record new one
I like song titles, its more ''philosophical'' as ''beer drinker'' chansaw swinger'' and such HM , HR ... cant pick a fav song, I say all album is equal
