Now this is something, I can't even describe how I feel about this one yet. It is so refreshing, so original, that it is almost too alienating. That doesn't make much sense, but I'm going to have to let this one ride for a while, maybe understand it better. Nice staff pick though...

Thanks! I already knew the band a bit before, but never really checked what they did apart of a few songs on Myspace. Then Ivor told me they had just released a new album... Et voilà !

Wow. Wow. Wow. What took me so long to finally listen? This is beautifully unexpected.
'Ole Pip is right above: this is refreshing and original. Yet, I don't find it alienating I find it welcoming What's so truly refreshing about this album for me is that so many "original," "unexpected," and "refreshing" bands are really in-your-face about it, being crazy and over the top "different." Lazuli is subtle about it. They're just some dudes making good music they like that happens to not sound much like anyone else. Done.
That's what makes a good album to me.

Well, I like both the crazy-in-your-face original approach of bands like Unexpect (or Devin Townsend with Deconstruction), and the subtly beautiful one Lazuli (or, in a different area altogether, Thy Catafalque) use

An album that I spin continually / an album that is on auto-repeat at home
(or something similar)
Not perfect, but the meaning is there!

Out of curiosity, what are the lyrics about? I kept reading 'Battlements' whenever I looked at the album title so I thought for quite a while it had something to do with castles

Most of them are either about society, relationships and/or time (BTW, the album's title means 4603 beats). They are a bit... well, not depressed, but a bit sad at the actual state of the world. Like in "Je te laisse ce monde", as the chorus means: 'son, I leave you this world, like one leaves a burden; son, i leave you my dreams, like one leaves a raft'. Well, it doesn't sound this well in English, that's because it doesn't rhyme
Other examples could be "15h40" (it's about someone who's just looking at the clock, waiting for work to end), "Les Malveillants" (literally malicious, malevolent people), while "Festin Ultime" is a song-long play about writing, sentiments, and the final feast of someone who's about to die (as far as word play is concerned, think about Martin Walkier's lyrics)
Hope that was enough

Many thanks! It sounds like the lyrics match the music then, the sound does give a slightly melancholic (but not depressed) feel. Songs like 'Les Malveillants' made me feel like they were dealing with something emotionally charged.

Yup. No one specific is named in "Les Malveillants", but the song is as you say emotionally charged, so I'm pretty sure the singer (who also wrote the lyrics) had someone(s) specific in mind.
