To pass judgement on a band such as Neurosis can be a tough call but that's normal when we are talking about a band that helped shape up one of the most successful metal styles around and are renowned for being extremely consistent throughout their entire discography. 5 long years passed since Given To The Rising (my first contact with the band and a personal favorite) and the expectations were obviously high among most of the fans. The question is: Did they live up to them? Yes and no... But mostly no.

I have a nasty bet with a friend on whether Tool or Neurosis will release their next album first... But I don't care anymore 'cause fucking Neurosis is back!

Even though I am not a huge fan of Neurosis I will have to check this out to see what direction this takes and see what the influences are...

Wow ! I've got to say I was giving up on the genre, and I stopped searching for new Post/genre music but Neurosis are the masters and this album is nothing short of a masterpiece.

I need to listen to this a couple of more times to sink in but I possibly like this even more than The Eye Of Every Storm.

Looks like Neurosis can indeed do no wrong.

For sure, The only problem I have with this and other Neurosis albums is that they have to be compared to Through Silver in Blood.

As much as I LOVE that album and find it to be on my top 5 of the 90s.... I must disagree. I find all their albums very different from each other so comparing becomes futile.
Would you compare TSIB with an album like The Eye Of Every Storm? I wouldn't because the styles are too different for me so it wouldn't be useful let alone fair.

Fair Comment, Stylistically they are different and shouldn't really be compared, I just think Through Silver in Blood is there best album, Regardless of later evolutions and changes in sound.

Oh, I agree there. To me it's their best album but by quite a close margin still and since they all are quite different from each other I find myself liking them for different reasons so the slight drop of quality isn't noticeable for me because I'm searching for one thing when I want to listen to TSIB and something already different when I want to listen to say Given To The Rising.

It also helped the fact that I discovered most of their discography BEFORE TSIB... That definitely helped me to appreciate all their work within their own light.

Well as you know it was the total opposite for me (Thanks btw), The benchmark was set with that album and it was never surpassed, I am glad I got into this band, They have done no wrong so far.

For the first time in my life, I was underwhelmed by something these guys put out. I have listened to it a few times hoping it will get better, but its just so.........average for them. The atmospheres are pretty nice, but there's no riffs or melodies that I could really hang onto. Some songs definitely have their moments but it either takes too long to get there, or just simply aren't that impressive. I know Neurosis has always set the bar high, but this album feels a little unfocused and just doesn't pack a punch like their other albums have. Even "Eye of Every Storm" which was their "soft" album hits way harder than this. Still good, but I already find myself wanting to throw on other Neurosis albums which generally isn't a good sign.

Well I listened to this once through. More or less sounds a lot like their previous release. I am not a big fan anyways but this was alright.

I dunno guys, I think it's their best yet (of the albums I've heard). TSIB is definitely good, but nothing special to my ears. "We All Rage In Gold", "Casting Of The Ages" are epic tracks.

Welp, THAT is an unusual stand for someone who digs Neurosis... Considering it's probably their most influential album. I consider this to be not special at all. Re-done ideas that sometimes fail to get a proper ending.

Although all the Through Silver in Blood love is much deserved (it's an epic classic) I'd like to point out and remind everyone Neurosis already had 2 epic classics released before TSIB. Souls at Zero and Enemy of the Sun...These albums shouldn't be forgotten because at the time of their release there was nothing and I mean nothing like them, TSIB was basically just those 2 albums with better production and more industrial overtones added.

This is a really interesting album. I think the music on it is some of the most 'to-my-tastes' stuff that Neurosis have done, and I like *Most* of the songwriting, with some missteps here and there. However, I feel the production and heaviness (or lack of) in some places sells it short, and the vocals could do with being a bit more powerful. Flawed but entertaining
