The tomb-like silence of Akercocke might be painful to our little longing hearts but there is always Voices, the new project of Akercocke members David Gray, Peter Benjamin and Sam Loynes. This is ferocious and violent black metal, at times faster than your heartbeat, malicious, unsettling, with splashes of serene voices from the human forest which create a fugue of imaginary rain.

Samples? The CDs have been around for a few days

Btw. does anyone know where I can find the lyrics? I think they posted them for "This Too Shall Pass", so they shouldn't be a secret. However, they are not included in the booklet. :<

Fantastic album. The way the ravaging riffs give way to the beauty of piano and gently singing female vocals, then return to the original intensity, is done absolutely wonderfully. An incredible mix of genres that manage to form a ridiculously enjoyable record. Black metal album of the year so far.

I wouldn't trade it for any of Akercocke's, but indeed it was extremely pleasant listen.

It's better than any Akercocke release if you ask me, but I've never been the biggest fan of their's.

As very decent as this is I would also put every Akercocke record ahead of this. This is a fine debut effort but it fails to meet its ambition and quite often gets lost. Not to mention the drums which frequently suffocate the music. A fine record, but lots of better and more focused black metal this year. It's just not THAT good.

Good album, and even if it doesn't exactly surpass anything from Akercocke's career, it still proves to be a very worthwhile debut. 'Sexual isolation' is pretty good, but I just wish it wasn't three minutes too long. Meanwhile the more straightforward likes of opener 'Dnepropetrovsk' (Is anyone else having trouble trying to pronounce the title or is it just me?) 'Fragmented illustrations of anger' are solid and concise, but the harsher vocals don't do it for me. Female vocals and clean ones are lush and graceful, and should be considered when listening to a sound which is otherwise brutal and chaotic.

Really enjoying this album and looking forward to seeing them at Damnation. The drums are awesome, I love that they're over the top.

I would have voted these guys for the black metal award, but since I see nobody gave a vote yet, I might go for the next in line so it doesn't go to waste
