A new Nightingale album has taken a long time to see daylight. To me it's at least 3-4 years overdue. Ever since Swanö hinted at it being in the works I've been impatiently waiting for a release date. As days, weeks, months and years went by, I started filing the scarce news of its progress under speculative fiction and fantasy. I was slowly starting to think of it as a vapourtune.

"Amazing" doesn't even feel like a good enough word for Swano albums anymore. It's appropriate that there's a song about Robert Johnson on here ("27"), because Dan must have made a deal with someone to have this much talent.

He's said that this album is more 80s than the last one, and I'd agree - some nice synth work going on, and a slightly wetter mix than the last couple. The rerecording of "Glory Days" from Nightfall Overture would be a good comparison.

The material took me a couple of listens to really get into, since the songs don't all have big hooks like some of Nightingale's previous stuff, but even on first-listen it was all really solid. "Lucifer's Lament", "Forevermore", and "27" are definite highlights.

Maybe the best prog rock album this year? The vocals are the real highlight here to me. Not a lot of overflashy instrumental wankery throughout the album. It can sound a bit cheesy at times but there is a certain conciseness to this album. There's no extra, just what needs to be there. Very nice. I'll be spinning this one a bunch more for sure.

Only beaten by the Crimson albums and Alive Again. Really, I worship his voice. Many people complain that there's nothing really new here, and perhaps that's true, but it's one of the most rocking albums I've heard. The melodies are just... awesome.

This album marks the first time I have listened to these guys and I'm thoroughly impressed. Its always nice to listen to some prog music that isn't totally overbearing and pretentious with drawn out compositions. Every track here is great. Some of my favorites: Lucifer's Lament, Chasing the Storm Away, Divided I Fall.

Maybe I'm too much in love with White Darkness, but prefer it to this last one.
