Is this like... Brave Murder Day? When the first three tracks were already revealed in the title?
Anyway, this is my most anticipated album of 2015!

The name of the album is pretty funny. But Ihave never been disappointed after having listened to all the Steven Wilson albums. I'm looking forward to hearing this release to!

Half way through, first thing I can notice is this isn't anything like his last record. Much less proggy and perfect and more AOR. 3 Years Older and Home Invasion are interesting songs.

At first listen, this is a much more accessible and instantly likeable record than The Raven. Ancestral is definitely another highlight track here. Compared to the last one, this is still much less proggy and more pop-ish. The focus seems to be more on actual songs here rather than the impressive and technical instrumentation, not that this lacks it though. In the end, it seems I prefer this to that.

Listened to this one a few times yesterday and I'm still grasping it. Not sure what to make of it, I know I like the new direction that moves away from Eclectic Crimson-esque Prog and goes towards a more melodic type of sound. First I've thought the album lacked that punch but there is a lot to explore even in the more calm songs. It's better than Grace and different than The Raven. I feel this is the Metanoia of his solo carreer.

This is simply splendid, amazing tone and production all around. And now for something completely different. I can always count on steven to surprise me with his musical creations, this album is simply wonderful, certainly not metal but glorious nonetheless.

I was just going to ask if this new album from him is still his adoration of crappy, '70s early prog rock. I hate that these artists are doing this. Opeth, Riverside, S. Wilson...

Don't agree at all with Riverside, has nothing to do with Retro Prog, you have to give that band another try.
But speaking of this, it is, indeed, a new direction. It's melodic and way more modern. There's also a lot of electronic elements in it.

Riverside is one of my favorite bands and their sound changed on their last album - bigtime. Not 100% early prog, but it's in there.
Thanks for the short summary for this album. I will give it a shot now...thanks to you

Fine.
I hate that these bands, musicians I love, went to this sort of sound. If I want to listen to that type of music, I will turn on a '70s Genesis or King Crimson album...

Well John, 70's prog isn't my most favorite thing, so when three of my favorite prog bands/musicians ever decided to make albums that sound like it, I was pissed.

Beautiful album, very different from Raven. Initial listen I didn't like the first half of the album because I thought it was too slow. Now, after several spins, I find my favorite songs are at the beginning. You can't explain that.

Ancestral... another masterpiece.
Definitely, moody Dredg-esque gloom, with some yazz flute and it just builds and builds with those strings. Leading into that contemplative section very reminiscent of Edge of Sanity's Crimson, the development is fantastic. Breaks into that Arriving Somewhere guitar breakdown with that ominous atmosphere, one of his best songs ever.

It's great to finally see Steven Wilson going for some more original content again. The last few releases with his name associated with them all tired me somewhat with their insistance on sounding like "prog".
I feel like this is what seperates actual progressive music from 'prog'; an attempt to advance and create something new and unique instead of replicating the same, tired sound. This album is still treading in familiar territory, yet doing it in a way that is completely fresh. Hints of art pop / art rock here and there and an overall strong, simultaneous diversity and cohesion between tracks.
That being said, this album still didn't absolutely blow me away or anything. It's got a lot of solid material on it, but I feel like Steven could take it even further. It's still my favourite SW-related album in a good few years though. Nice stuff.
