Ah, that clarifies it. I didn't even realize that this album was based on a story that wasn't Moby Dick.
Neither were the second and third album. ;-)

What is the third album about? I never properly checked it out.

Quite good actually. Not exactly bursting with originality or anything, and I still think The Giant was a more interesting record, but good nonetheless. I think I actually prefer the clean moments on this.
Surely someone should do something about that funeral doom tag. There's barely an ounce of f-doom here.

As to the first song title I remember talking to the drummer and vocalist about it being incorrect. They explained what they meant by it and it somehow made sense at the time (almost three months ago) but for the life of me I can't remember what their explanation was
At first I thought that the title "The Thing That Made Search" was taken directly from the book, which is written in an archaic style. I thought it was some old grammar that is now outdated (I really hated The History of English Grammar at the uni, so I can't remember much ).
Anyway, I asked on the band's Facebook page, perhaps someone will answer.

I got a quick response from the band, so I checked chapter III of "The Boats of the Glen Carrig". It's entitled "The Thing That Made Search". The chapter starts with a depiction of a mysterious creature:
I sat me up and listened, and so became aware that something was fumbling about the deck of the main cabin.
A few paragraphs later:
Presently, the sound ceased, and, listen as we might, we could no longer distinguish it. Yet, until the morning, we dozed no more; being troubled in mind as to what manner of thing it was which had made search in the big cabin.
So the explanation of the title and its odd grammar is pretty straightforward

I'm having a hard time NOT enjoying this. Fucking solid! Funeral doom with a good portion of healthy variation! Even the short track kicks ass Makes me wanna read the story it's based on.

This is probably my favorite by these guys, or at least the most addictive of their albums. Can't stop playing it.

Best I've heard this year. Was worried they were going to stick with what they delivered on 'The Giant' ..... Thankfully they did not. What an album! Congrats!!

Definitely the best that Ahab have delivered since their monumental debut - not that they ever released a bad album by my standards; they have never gotten anything below an 8.5 from me. This is certainly a strong contender for my album of the year, in a crazy, competitive, fantastic year for music! Right now it's in a 3-way duel with Arcturus - Arcturian & Lychgate - An Antidote For The Glass Pill, but before the end of the year they could be joined by Paradise Lost and a few other highly anticipated releases, so who knows...

For the past few years Ahab rose as one of the leading names in fyuneral doom circles. With every album the band up not one, but two stages in its development and is progressing so fast that apparently limits of the genre, which established themselves, they started becoming tight. With "The Boats of the Glen Carrig" they show that they are already far from the simple definition fyuneral doom metal.
Ahab are progressive group. Now, no hasty conclusions. They still play doom, but only progressive group can create this style with such verve and ingenuity. The new album Ahab our present an improved version of "The Giant". The quartet continues the commitment towards the previous edition, and the result is really impressive. The accumulated musical experience is noticeable immediately. Extreme vocals of Daniel Droste are so severe that they can be compared with those of Caudal of Uaral. But not only that - worst moments so typical of doom metal, when Ahab alternate with pleasant relaxing acoustic and poluakustichni passages. We hear and clean vocals that are beautifully executed and perfectly fit the situation. These enjoyable moments can be found in almost all the songs from the album. So begins the opening piece "The Isle", which is one of the pearls of the publication. Clean guitars and soulful vocal performances invoke melancholic but beautiful sentiment that progresses song grew into outright sadness and anger. Dark, heavy and slow guitars with brutal distortion their way, inflicting severe blows with malicious and complex reefs that bear. This continued into the next song - "The Thing That Made Search". Is the shortest track on the album - the single "Red Foam", which is certainly the fastest composition played by Ahab ever. With a bit more commercial than the others, it represents the melodic side of the band, and at times is going to sound slightly like Woods of Ypres. "The Weedmen" is the second pearl, as is actually the longest on the album. Here are showcased entirely musical and compositional possibilities of composition. Reefs are long, heavy and complicated in places there are some pretty good solos.
Overall the mood in "The Boats of the Glen Carrig" is like the sea - sometimes quiet, sometimes violently, sinister and aggressive. Attention must be paid to cover that surely will start tops the list for the most beautiful art albums.

Your raving comment in this very thread and your 10/10 rating do not match this statement in any way.
Would you care to elaborate on that contradiction or did you just string a few random words together?

Oh what the heck?! I remember listening to this band a while back and having little to no interest - on the contrary, this album is blowing my mind! And I don't even like funeral doom or even doom in general, only one album tagged so has received a 9 from me.
Will repeat listenings to make sure this is as good as it sounds right now. I also love the cover art, one of the best I've ever seen.
