The Force Of The Ancient Land, an album by Mathias Hemmingby's one-man project Eldamar, is a work that simultaneously demonstrates some of the best and worst elements that the atmospheric black metal genre has to offer. It is an ambitious debut that falls short of achieving its aim of being a masterpiece, but does so in a way that is still admirable and enjoyable.

This really reminds me of another album, but I can't think what. A Kauan album, maybe?

Nothing special, tbh. The songs are all very similar and the synthesized female vocals just get on my nerves after awhile. I can appreciate that this was made by just one 19-year-old, but 75 minutes of this are just way too much, there's simply nothing interesting enough on this album to justify that length.

Checked this out after listening the Summoning tribute album and seeing all the praise it got.
It does nothing. One more of those atmo-black bands which all follow the same formula: simple keyboard melodies, no riffs only tremolos, 100% reverbed raspy vocals and that "woods/winter/nature" lyrics approach.
That female-keyboard-sound is annoying as hell after 5 seconds. Can't remember anything except that annoying sample! It's that memorable
Why do these bands get so much praise will always remain a mystery. It's like raving over some random darkclone band in the 21st century.

Actually getting a bit of a prison-era Burzum vibe from some of this.

This seems rated strangely high, if you like the vibe of this album I would try Elderwind, "The Magic of Nature," a much better take on this style imo

It's not a bad album, it does have a quite beautiful and tranquil atmosphere, when I'm in a relaxing enough mood to listen to it.
Although listening all the way through it can get tiresome, and the long songs get too repetitive and become boring after some time, the female vocals also get annoying after a while.

The theme is typical of this kind of Atmospheric Black, setting the atmosphere around the scenery, to match the album cover, but while it draws me in in, it's also not as memorable or well structured as for instance Elderwind, or Lustre, who are similar bands with this style.

The highlight for me was Travel in woods, which is a beautiful song, and is kept short in comparison to the rest on the album.
