This band may have just done an Aevangelist. This is simply alienating and weird to me, but maybe it needs a few listens. I can't imagine this album getting the same sort of reception its predecessor got on MS.

This is probably what I would listen to all day if I was more of a death metal fan.

This sort of DM is getting a bit overdone now, but still IR shows that they are one of the bests in doing it.
I approve the psychedelic touches here and there. They really need to fully develop this sound.

Very surprised you care for this, to be honest. This could be a contender for disappointment of the year for me. An enormous drop in quality compared to their last album....

Im just listening to it again, and I like it even more that before. They proved once more that they are at the top of the game when it comes to this sort of DM. In addition, they have expanded their sound. Drops of psychedelia works really fine within the context of this album, something that I have not heard in any DM band of similar sound.

Maybe I just don't understand death metal.

Probably the ultimate cavernous death metal album. Interestingly, it is one of the more unique ones of its sub-subgenre.

One of the best death metal albums I have heard.
It still has downtempo death metal parts where they sound a bit (too much) Portalish and some parts which could be seen as avantgarde death/doom but I like that this is not as ritualistic as Unholy, this is faster more technical, more savage. The overly ritualistic opener is probably the thing that I don't like here but in the end its beautifully connected with the closer, and even if the closer is a bit too atmospheric for my liking it works well after the onslaught I just have been through.
This is a challenging and extremely well crafted and beautiful album, a classic in my ears!
