Damn, the guy had some great music in him still.

So this is a pretty great album.

Apparently Dane had 80 minutes worth of material for Shadow Work, but was only halfway done with recording the vocals before he passed away. I can only wonder whether this album would have benefitted from being twice its current length or not.

I am glad the other members decided to finish his work. It's a worthy addition to the man's discography, a long awaited continuation of Dane's solo career, and a great swansong for a legendary singer.

Some people suggested this is a cash grab by the label and/or other members and while I don't see it that way at all, the reason behind finishing this album is of no concern to me.

Musically Shadow Work is closest to The Obsidian Conspiracy and Praises To The War Machine, with perhaps a slightly bigger focus on fast, aggressive riffs, which are great. I am however not a big fan of the lead guitar playing. To me it's just sterile shredding and lacks identity. Something a guitarist like Loomis had in spades.

This album proves to me that Dane still had a lot of great music to give us and I can only imagine what a reconciliation and reunion album with Nevermore would have been like.

I have been spending a lot of time with this one the last couple weeks. Great record. The Hanging Garden is a delightful head-scratcher of a cover, and Fast as the Others could be my favorite single of the year.

The Hanging Garden is a fantastic cover indeed. For me the purpose of a cover is to put your own signature under someone else's song instead of just providing a similar version of it. The cover of Lucretia My Reflection in the previous album was great too.

What a way to exit, this album! Warrel, you will be missed so much, may you rest in peace...

Aye, I'm totally in love with that Sisters Of Mercy cover. Can't think of a better cover off the top of my head, except maybe Type O Negative's version of Paranoid.
Warrel has an amazing cover song track record though; White Rabbit, Sound Of Silence, Lucretia, Hanging Garden, the Bauhaus Medley...

...And a great taste in music

After first listen, not overly convinced by the album... but Warrel's singing is still top notch. and "As Fast As The Others" is a great song

Solid vocal performance by Dane but the music is meh. This album just makes me want to listen to Nevermore.

I like the darker touch to his vocals here.
