Biography

Pseudo Mind Hive are a four-piece psychedelic stoner rock band from Melbourne, Australia that take influence from classic groups from the '60s and '70s whilst maintaining a progressive attitude and an ever evolving sound. They are known both for their relentless work ethic and their prowess as a live act.

Formed in 2007 as a five-member band made up of Jack Ainsworth on bass, Samuel Drew-Rumoro on drums, Christopher Hockey on guitar and lead vocals, Mark Vincini on guitar, and Jess Joannou on organ and synths. All members contribute backing vocals.

Though the definition varies according to who you ask, most will agree that stoner rock requires a few basic ingredients: fuzzy, overdriven guitars with heavy riffs, thunderous drums and crashing cymbals, a fat bass sound, rounds of progressive patterns and guitar leads, complex turnarounds and changeups, psychedelic lyrics, and it doesn’t hurt if your vocalist sounds just a little bit like Ozzy Osbourne. Throw in a some spacey synthesizers and grinding organs for good measure and Pseudo Mind Hive checks all of these marks, cementing themselves firmly in the scene with their brand of heavy, psychedelic stoner rock. If you enjoy bands like Elder or Howling Giant, you’re going to dig Pseudo Mind Hive.

In 2020, Chris, Sam and Jesse announced on Facebook that Mark and Jack would leave the band in 2020, however, their contributions would still feature on their next studio album slated for release in 2022.

Lineup changes continued in the 2020-21 period, with Jesse Joannou leaving the band, and new members Jake Bicchieri (bass) and John Zacharias (guitar) joining as Pseudo Mind Hive re-emerge as a four-piece band.
