Biography
The band Wolfmare was founded in 2002 in St. Petersburg, Russia by ex-members of local metal and folk projects. The band plays folk metal, but their creativity is too strong to lock it in frames of one genre. Many shades and influences of black metal, doom metal and even 70's rock were added to the folk metal base and make the unique Wolfmare sound. The most of lyrics are in English, but some traditional songs in other languages are also performed.
Wolfmare is a successful live band. They played at a number of club gigs and open airs in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other Russian cities. They supported such bands as Cruachan, Tiamat, Finntroll, Battlelore, Moonsorrow, Ensiferum, Týr and Korpiklaani in St. Petersburg and were the special guests at Cruachan's Russian tour. Wolfmare also played at festivals Germany in 2009 and 2011.
Wolfmare has recorded three studio albums. The first one titled Widdershins was released by a local Russian label in 2004 and included quite raw but melodic stuff. It was quite successful for the band to look for a contact with some international labels, so they had signed with the Austrian CCP Records for three albums. Two of them are released. First one is Whitemare Rhymes (2008) and the second one is Hand of Glory (2010). Both of them had a good press and sales, although they present different kinds if music. As Whitemare Rhymes is full of pleasant tunes, clean vocals and happiness, the Hand of Glory is much more dark and brutal.
Now it's time to show one more face of Wolfmare. The slogan of the forthcoming album is "Back to the roots", not only the band's roots but also the roots of the folk music. Wolfmare are never the same, more voices, more instruments, and more surprises are waiting for the audience. The album is planned to be out in 2013.
