Asthma - Biography
Biography
The band was formed in Daugavpils, Latvia in early 2009 by a lead guitarist Max "Mr. Volff" Popov after the disbanding his former project "Balaguri". Besides him, the other core members of the band were a singer Vadim "Pinguin" Mamonov and a drummer Arthur "Portwein" Sokolov. "Asthma" decided to choose death metal as its main musical direction.
In early summer they were joined by an inventive bass player Al Potapov (formerly of "Consumed"). However, Al Potapov's stay in the band was a short-lived one since he departed to. Shortly after that two other band members Max and Arthur followed him leaving the band on hiatus. The band was reunited a month later when Max and Arthur got back to Latvia. It also took two new members on board - rhythm guitarist Andrei and electronic music artist Vladimir Sklema turning "Asthma" into a quintet. Vladimir's function in the band was creating some original synthetic sound patterns and fills making the overall sound of the band more ominous and twisted. Apart from that another Vladimir's function was arranging so-called "zombie shows" during the live performances that were characterized by wearing some bizarre outfits and spectacular actions.
In the mid-fall having enough material composed the band started to record its debut LP titled "Most Evil", which was completed by the end of 2009 featuring seven tracks along with several original intros created by Vladimir
The beginning of 2010 marked a growing dissatisfaction with Andrei who got kicked from the. The replacement for him came in a face of Alex Prokofjev - a promising lead guitarist. In early summer 2010 the band was joined by bassist Jaroslav "Sokol" Sokolov, who formerly played along with Max and Arthur in "Balaguri". But some time later Arthur left "Asthma" being annoyed by some state of things. His duties were taken over by Dmitry Suhanovsky (formerly of "Annihilated" and "Slivers Cross"). Along with that the band relocated to new rehearsing facilities located in a fishplant.
In the late 2010 Max and Alex decided to overcome the creative crisis by changing the band's style to an old school thrash metal still preserving some elements of death metal. The band agreed on that, however Vadim declared that he quits since this wasn't exactly the style he'd like to continue with. The offer to fill in his place wass addressed to Victor "Abdula" Rinkevich, a close friend of Max, with whom he had a chance to play in a now-defunct project called "SvinKTR". In early 2011 it became clear that Vladimir's services are no longer needed and he got fired. In early spring Jaroslav left the band to work in Holland and he was replaced by Arthur Korejev, who used to take part previously in the band's live shows covering Cannibal Corpse's "Hammer Smashed Face".
The renewed line-up after two year break started recording new stuff, which is already recorded in the begining of 2013 as a demo titled "Trigger Happy".
