The term ''Deathstars'' has no connection to the Death Star known from the Star Wars saga. The name comes from the fact that band members used to play in different death metal bands so the name is an ironic reference to being ''death metal stars''.

Emil Nödtveidt is the little brother of late Dissection front man Jon Nödtveidt. Emil has appeared on several recordings with his brother.
