Deicide - Sign With Century Media Records

Official press release

Twenty years ago, an underground cult movement surfaced in Tampa, Florida that revolutionized the metal world. The pioneers of this burgeoning scene, Deicide, are still striking fear into hearts of the masses to this day. Century Media Records are extremely proud to announce a worldwide deal with Deicide, one of the founding fathers of death metal. The group stands strong to this day as one of the most influential and controversial bands ever. With a relentlessly brutal sound and uncompromisingly blasphemous lyrics, Deicide helped set the standards for extreme metal and have maintained those standards ever since.

Deicide led by original members Glen Benton (vocals, bass) and Steve Asheim (drums) have been busy at Audiohammer Studios with Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Chimaira) and are looking at a summer '09 release. The group have reunited with legendary guitarists Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (Obituary, ex-Iced Earth, Death) and will embark on a two-week European tour this week. Feel free to visit the band's official MySpace page to view their complete itinerary.

Benton states: "I want to say it is an honor to be an official CM artist. I look forward to working with the fine folks at CM and providing them with our style of metal. I can ensure you that what surfaces will definitely be nothing less than a total bash-your-face-in-from-start-to-finish, bastardpiece. HAIL SATAN!!!!"

Asheim further comments: "I'm happy to be a part of the CM family and look forward to working with them. The new Deicide material in the works should be a good way to kick off the new deal. It's a totally sick new record with a totally sick new label, but the same ol' sick Deicide. See you all in 2009 and hold onto your balls!"

Owen adds: "It is an honor and a pleasure to sign with one of the most established metal labels on the planet. Century Media's track record speaks for itself, and we can't wait to unleash this beast of a new Deicide album through the mighty CM! Many thanks to Kevin Astl and Steve Joh for their long hours bringing this deal to full fruition!"

Deicide released their groundbreaking self-titled debut in 1990. Recorded at Tampa's Morrisound Studio (the legendary studio where the band would go on to record all its albums), the vicious debut would soon be hailed as one of the "Top 100 Metal Albums of the 90's" by England's metal authority, Terrorizer Magazine. In 1992, Deicide followed up their debut with "Legion", which was an instant success, further establishing their furious musical intensity and vengeful anti-Christian stance. This landmark extreme metal release secured their place at the forefront of the American death metal scene as they rapidly earned a reputation for controversy.

Deicide - Glen Benton Is Touring Again

In a statement sent today to the Earache REcords offices, Glen Benton gives an update on his whereabouts and future plans for Deicide:

"It is with great pleasure to announce that I will be performing with Deicide once again after a 14 month absence and that my legal issues that have prevented myself from performing have been resolved. Without going into great detail about my personal life, because I am a person who prefers his privacy. I wish to extend my apologies to the promoters and to my business associates who may have been inconvenienced.

I look forward to rejoining Steve, Jack and Ralph on stage, and I would like to announce that we are presently booking exclusive dates or the United States and Europe for 2008 in support of "Till Death Do Us Part". I will be performing exclusive dates in major markets and festival dates only as to accommodate my parental responsibilities.

The U.S. tour package will consist of Adrift from Tampa, Florida and Malevolent Creation in support of Deicide, with Malevolent supporting us on the Europe run as well. I would like to extend a thank you to my family, friends, and fans, and to everyone involved on the front lines and behind the scenes that supported me through this process."

Deicide - Number One Torture Hit In Iraq

The following not everyday blog was posted on Deicide's MySpace page:

"Deicide Music used by US Military to Torture prisoners in Iraq! -- Deicide scores a 1 hit with US Troops!

Gathered from evidence obtained through various reports, leaked interrogation logs and the accounts of soldiers and detainees, a list of the top 24 songs strategically used on military prisoners in Iraq was recently made public, according to Mother Jones Magazine's website. Mother Jones is an independent, left wing, nonprofit magazine rooted in progressive political values and known for its investigative reporting]

Among a list of such musical luminaries as Eminem, Metallica and AC/DC (as well as non-luminary Barney The Dinosaur), was Deicide, coming in at number one with the song "Fuck Your God" from 2004's "Scars Of The Crucifix".

When word of this info first got to Deicide drummer, Steve Asheim, the only thing he could really say was "It's cool. If we're upto military standards of audio abuse, it makes me feel like Deicide's doing our part for the troops." Of course this moment is not the only history that Asheim has with the armed forces. "My dad was a marine, as were my uncle and grandfather;" says the Deicide skinsman. "I didn't follow in their footsteps since I was so busy with the band thing, but I'm glad I was eventually able to contribute somehow."

Some of the tactical circumstances where prisoners may have heard "Fuck Your God" include sleep deprivation and interrogation disorientation. While some may see this information as a shock, other readers of the source article have taken a slightly different view of the situation. Commented one reader of the source article, "Honestly, the barney theme song is more disturbing than Deicide's "Fuck Your God"."

Deicide - Ralph Santolla Playing Guitar On Upcoming Album

Official Earache Records press release:

Veteran guitarist, Ralph Santolla has rejoined Deicide and is currently hard at work recording his guitar parts for Deicide's 2008 release, "Till Death Do Us Part" at Morrisound Studios in Florida.

Deicide had previously parted ways with Ralph Santolla back in May of this year. Over the course of the following months, he would spend the summer touring with Obituary and pushing his talent as far as it could go. When he was asked to rejoin Deicide in time for the recording of "Till Death Do Us Part", Santolla came back to the fold as a man possessed and he had come back, literally better than ever before.

While there will inevitably be naysayers who doubt the decision, Deicide drummer, Steve Asheim insists that Ralph Santolla's return will only strengthen the maniacal musical landscape that Deicide is known for. "Ralph is really reaching towards the very depths of his abilities to come up with something completely fresh and challenging."

Even those outside of the band have given nothing but positive feedback on Ralph Santolla's progress during the recording sessions. "Jim Morris came and told me that Ralph has been coming up with some of the greatest metal riffs and licks that he's ever heard;" says Asheim. "Ralph's really pushing his abilities to the limit, coming up with things that he's never been able to do before."

View some recent shots of Ralph Santolla recording his guitar parts at Morrisound Studios in Florida:

"Till Death Do Us Part" will be released in early 2008.
