Iron Maiden: low sales?
Despite mostly favorable reviews, IRON MAIDEN's latest CD, "Dance of Death", appears to be selling much more slowly in the U.S. than its predecessor, 2000's "Brave New World". According to the latest Nielsen SoundScan figures, "Brave New World" has shifted 271,050 copies in the U.S. so far, while its follow-up effort has registered a total sales tally of only 119,851.
"Dance Of Death" sold 40,308 copies during its first week of release last September to debut at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart. That number was in line with the first-week tally of "Brave New World", which moved 37,618 copies in June 2000 to land at No. 39 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Iron Maiden in court with Xerox
IRON MAIDEN may possibly not be able to play their fourth and last New York City show on Tuesday due to a double-booking by the venue, here's the statement Bruce made in tonight(Monday)'s show, paraphrased by a fan:
"XEROX Inc. scheduled a convention to go on at Hammerstein Ballroom on 1/27/03. The schedulers, DOUBLE-BOOKED Hammerstein Ballroom. And now, XEROX and IRON MAIDEN's managers are in court, waiting for a judge to decide what should go on. Bruce himself said, Iron Maiden scheduled a show, and tickets were sold...so you figure it out. I know as much as you do."

The Evening Times is reporting that heavy metal veterans IRON MAIDEN rocked the SECC in Glasgow so hard Monday night (Dec. 8) they blew the sound system in an awe-inspiring set that delivered a full-on dose of rock theatrics.
The audience in the packed auditorium was so eager to get close to their heroes that there was a small crowd-crush at the front of the stage, causing frontman Bruce Dickinson to stop the set only two songs in, urging the crowd to take two steps back so that the people who had fallen could get up again.
"We want to be taking people out of here tonight happy ? we don't want to be taking them out in body-bags," he cautioned.
After a short breather, the band launched back with "Can I Play With Madness", Dickinson star-jumping and leaping around the set, with a boundless energy that would leave young pretenders THE DARKNESS breathless.
The gig almost came to a premature end when, after a thunderous intro with bombshells exploding and a storm of light and smoke, the band launched into extra-heavy riffs and the sound immediately cut dead.

Iron Maiden to stop playing live?
In a recent interview to the Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, Bruce Dickinson said that the band should just continue playing live in about 5 more years, and then only record albums, because of the ages of the Maiden members.
Though it doesn't really correspond with what Steve Harris used to say - that he would play live until he couldn't hold a bass anymore.

Iron Maiden
IRON MAIDEN producer Kevin Shirley, who has worked with the group on their last two studio releases as well as the live album "Rock In Rio", has taken the unusual step of publicly defending the production on MAIDEN's latest CD, "Dance Of Death", calling it a perfect replica of the band's live sound.
Writing to his web site, Shirley said, "I have been getting all sorts of e-mails (yeah I read 'em, but don't reply to them all) about the sonic quality of 'Dance of Death'. Now, I don't need to qualify anything, except it sounds like that 'cos it's meant to sound like that! The band love it! Nicko [McBrain] prefers the energy of the drum/guitar balance to 'Brave New World', which actually featured more drums (which he liked). Steve [Harris] says the bass finally sounds like his rig sounds. The three amigos love the guitars - including the odd amp crackle and distortion which is the sound of them live - and that, my friends, is Bruce singing like he sings! Not coaxed, and digitally enhanced, tuned and corrected. IRON MAIDEN - captured. The songs are great, but not necessarily reflective of nu-metal themes - because THEY ARE NOT NU-METAL! That is IRON MAIDEN, and no one is stopping you filling up your CD players with LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT or CHEVELLE, or whatever the hell you think is a fine sounding record. (they all sound sonically pretty similar to me, whereas NO-ONE else sounds like MAIDEN. I love the album. So, Up the Irons - and for the know-it-all detractors = Up yours!"
