Elvenking - Update From The Band
Italian power folk metallers Elvenking have checked in with the following update:
"At the moment we are building up a new rehearsal room, where we'll soon start working on the new album material. A lot of new songs and ideas have been written and we will put something together soon and see what is going to happen. But it is too soon to talk about this. We will try to keep you informed on the progress.
Even if we will keep on working on the new album songs for all the Fall it does not mean we will be far from the stages. And what a great Fall we will have! If someone of you remember correctly it is exactly 10 years since the release of our debut album Heathenreel (yes, it was 2001, gosh!) so we want to celebrate this birthday in a proper way! So we will be on stage in Fall 2011 for a number of gigs with a lot of songs from the famous first album plus another choice of songs from the other albums rarely or never played live! It will be something special you do not have to miss!!! It's "10 years in Heathenry"!"

Insomnium - Confirm Album Release Dates, Euro Tour With Before The Dawn
Official press release
Finland is an evocative land. The very mention of it conjures visions of endless darkness, long, cold wintry nights and an almost oppressive bleakness. It is within this icy cauldron that the soul of Insomnium was borne.
Their music is as epic as it is melodic, as melancholic as it is majestic and as brutal as it is beautiful. To call Insomnium a Death Metal band is to do them a grave disservice. The upcoming album One For Sorrow is such an amalgamation of styles that pigeonholing them into a single category would be to rob the band of its true complexity and ignore the very essence of its sound.
Recalling art-metal titans Cult Of Luna at one turn and brutal visionaries Amon Amarth at others, One For Sorrow displays the true musical breadth of a band that has clearly come into its own on this, their debut album for Century Media. One For Sorrow will be released on October 12th in Finland, October 17th in the rest of Europe and October 18th in North America.
Guitarist Ville Friman comments on the album title: "The name One For Sorrow comes from a traditional children's nursery rhyme. There are ten different scenarios in the original rhyme; likewise there are ten different songs and stories on our album. I think One For Sorrow truly depicts what this album is all about: bereavement, grief and loss."
Right after the album's release Insomnium will tour Europe. Ville Friman comments: "We are very exited to finally do a headline tour for the first time in our career. This is a really big step for us and we will definitely bring our A-game. The new songs absolutely kill and we can't wait to play them live! It's also great to share this opportunity with two great Finnish bands Before The Dawn and MyGrain. Don't miss the fun and consider your livers warned: hangover unavoidable."
Vocalist Niilo Sevänen continues: "One For Sorrow is a truly epic album and the tour will surely be immense! We get to visit many of our favorite cities and meet the fans who have long waited for Insomnium headlining show. From London to Ljubljana we are looking forward to see you all!"
One For Sorrow European Tour 2011:
14.11 - Holland, Rotterdam - Baroeg
15.11 - UK, London - Underworld
16.11 - Belgium, Antwerpen - Trix
17.11 - Switzerland, Aarau - Kiff
18.11 - Slovenia, Ljubljana - Gala Hala
19.11 - Austria, Wien - Arena

Wolves In The Throne Room - New Album Nears Completion
After devoting late Winter season to writing and recording, Wolves In The Throne Room are in the final stages of completing their fourth full-length opus of epic, earthen Black Metal ceremony.
For over six months the Weaver brothers, Aaron and Nathan, have been immersed in the painstaking writing and recording process of their newest album, and this week the process is nearly complete, at press time the album in its final mixing stages. The Wolves In The Throne Room clan have confirmed the title of this forthcoming astral black metal document as Celestial Lineage.
The transmutation reaches a new level with the completion of the album. In contrast to the bleakly hypnotic architecture of Black Cascade, the lifespan of Celestial Lineage breathes more expansive and visionary life into the duo's work. The Wolves In The Throne Room trademark long-form approach to arrangement remains intact, but there is a stronger thread of Popul Vuh-inspired underworld synthscapes and star-lit pulse woven with the intertwining guitar figures.
Celestial Lineage will end a trilogy of releases which began with Two Hunters (2007), and is segued by Black Cascade (2009), and like both previous albums, will be released via Southern Lord Recordings, with a street date of September 13, 2011 now confirmed. Three songs on the album feature Jessika Kenney's liturgical choir and solo voice, as heard on Two Hunters as well as 2009's Malevolent Grain EP, the album also including orations from Aaron Turner (Isis).
Stated WITTR drummer Aaron Weaver of the writing process for Celestial Lineage: "An ornate constellation of imagery is what that guides the songwriting process. Cedar temples crowned with burnished bronze domes glimpsed in a remote valley. Wild Midsummer bonfires and feasting on roasted flesh. All of the sounds serve to evoke the images that exist in our minds eye. With this record we're going to explore an entirely new palette of sound. We want the instruments to sound like the liturgical music of a cedar cult."
Besides closing out a trilogy within Wolves In The Throne Room's own annals, Celestial Lineage also marks the final release to ever be recorded in engineering wizard Randall Dunn's infamous Aleph Studio, the birthplace of a plethora of groundbreaking releases from Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, Cave Singers, Bjork/Omar Souleyman and countless more over the past decade, as well as where the immense tones and energy on WITTR's lauded Two Hunters and Black Cascade albums were captured. Check out several brand new in-studio photos from these special recording sessions here.

Anathema - New Compilation Due In September
Anathema will release another reworked compilation album, entitled Falling Deeper, on September 5th.
The band released the following statement: "Falling Deeper continues where Hindsight left off. The album features brand new arrangements of songs and haunting melodies from our earliest days. It's a mesmerizing blend of the orchestral - majestic and at times ethereal - with beautiful vocal arrangements and our unique 'feedback' lead guitars, all centred around a grand piano and a huge rhythm section. All the layers work together to convey the haunting internal landscapes Anathema have become renowned for.
This is an album which we hope will excite old and new Anathema fans equally. A fresh musical and lyrical approach has transformed songs such as "Crestfallen", "Kingdom" and "Sunset Of Age". This record reveals how, even from the very start, the band wrote melodies which would always have a universal magic and emotional impact.
Another highlight of the album, "Everwake", features the incredible voice of Anneke van Giersbergen and has brought a higher dimension to one of the band's earliest and simplest acoustic pieces.
The record has been produced by Daniel Cavanagh and was recorded and mixed by Andrea Wright at the legendary Parr St Studios, Liverpool (where the likes of Elbow, Coldplay and Echo and the Bunnymen have also recorded albums). The orchestral arrangements are from Dave Stewart who worked so successfully with Anathema on We're Here Because We're Here.
Falling Deeper, in the words of Daniel Cavanagh, is: ''a nod to our past and a look to our future all at the same time, with a sound that is designed to transport you to the heart of the present moment.''

Ozzy Osbourne - Suffers From Laryngitis, Forced To Cancel Tonight's Graspop Appearance
Legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, designated Saturday headliner of the Graspop Metal Meeting taking place this weekend in Dessel, Belgium, had to cancel tonight's performance as he suffers from severe laryngitis and his doctor has ordered an immediate 72 hours vocal rest before further evaluation.
Comments Ozzy: "I was so looking forward to performing at the legendary Graspop Metal Meeting. It really pains me to let people down and it is with great disappointment that I am unable to perform for the great fans of Belgium."
The festival schedule has been modified accordingly. Former co-headliners Judas Priest will now headline on Saturday in a two-hour performance featuring a special laser show. Belgian thrashers Channel Zero have been added to the billing on short notice and will perform a 60 minute show, the first time they'll be performing their reunion album Feed 'Em With A Brick live.

Hellfest Open Air - News And Whispers From Hell
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last couple of months, you know that Hellfest Open Air 2011 took place last weekend.
As always, Metal Storm sent out a small army of reporters to cover the event. You can expect an exclusive live report, tons of hq pictures and an anthology of our most memorable festival experiences to appear online in the next coming weeks.
We also had the chance to meet up with some artists backstage. After the small talk and/or a few beers, we got to the juicy details. Here are a handful of scoops we gathered during our chats that we don't want to keep from you!
Orphaned Land are embarking on a big European tour later this year. Direct support will come from Oriental folk metal band Arkan and Tunisian progressive metallers Myrath. Dates for this tour have officially been announced earlier today. You can find them over here.
Oriental folk metal band Arkan will also support Arch Enemy in December. The band has been confirmed as the special guest on all French dates of the Arch Enemy winter tour throughout Europe.
Angelizer, the young melodic death metal outfit hailing from Toulouse, France, plan to release their first full-length album later this year. A tentative release date has been set for September. The follow-up to the 2008 Poison Dreams EP will be called Philosophy With Decibels, and will be released through New Death Records / Necrocosm Productions.
Also long-running French metal acts S.U.P. and Supuration are set to release a new album.
Supuration, the French death metal band, will start the recording process of their new album this summer. Mixing will take place in September. The album will be called Cu3e and is tentatively due in November. Cu3e will conclude the trilogy story started with The Cube and Incubation.
S.U.P., their avantgarde/electronic metal counterpart, will release a new album afterwards. Most of the material for this album has already been written.
Dødheimsgard plan to continue touring. A Paris show is scheduled for November 2 (but not confirmed yet), and the band intend to post future tour dates on their facebook page.
And while we're talking about touring, we have to mention that Pain Of Salvation have an upcoming Eastern Europe tour, which should happen sometime around October. The dates have yet to be published, so stay tuned for more info!
And finally, next year's edition of Hellfest Open Air will take place June 15-17th 2012 in Clisson, France. We can already tell that the festival will move 400 meters away from the previous area. First names to be announced soon! Hear it here first!

Nominon - Announce Line-Up Changes
Swedish death metal act Nominon has announced a couple of line-up changes in the band. The band welcomes back guitarist Christian "AntiChristian" Strömblad, who left the band only a couple of months ago. In the meantime, they also parted ways with bassist Martin Petersson, forcing guitarist Juha Sulasalmi to take over bass duties.
In the words of the band: "Nominon would like to welcome back the mighty guitarist AntiChristian to the band. After several months apart the band and AntiChristian realized that enough's enough and buried the hatchet. After a few meetings and rehearsals Nominon are certainly back on track again.
Since the bassist for a year, Martin, left the band a couple of weeks ago, and AntiChristian triumphant return to Nominon all this lead to the fact that guitarist Juha Sulasalmi will from now on take over the bass duties. Why complicate things further?!
At last, the recordings of the new 7" EP Manifestation Of Black (to be out through Deathgasm Records) are now finalized. The mixing will be done by engineer Robban at Studio Hell, were all the recordings recently took place as well, and the mastering will be sorted out by Javi Bastard at Moontower Studios in Barcelona, Spain."

Gama Bomb - Working On New Album
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb are currently writing new material for their as-yet untitled new album.
The follow-up to 2009's Tales From The Grave In Space will be Gama Bomb's fourth album and is tentatively due to be released early next year.
Gama Bomb frontman Philly Byrne comments: "We're about to enter a studio in central Dublin to work on demos for our new album, which we're hoping to release in early 2012. In terms of songwriting, we're writing much 'tougher' or meaner songs now. We want to make music that street gangs could listen to before a fight, songs you can sharpen a switchblade to. I've been looking a lot to Phil Lynott for inspiration, which can never be a bad thing. He's always been a big inspiration for us, even if you can't always hear it.
Mind you, we're also about everything from our history of underage drinking and theoretical physics to drag racing and (of course) cannibalism, so there's no knowing where this one is going to take us. We're hopefully going to record here in Ireland and we'll pull no punches on either the speed of the riffs or the attitude of the songwriting. That's the only plan right now."
Gama Bomb are also gearing up for a string of summer festival dates, but have had to bring in a temporary stand-in for lead guitarist Domo Dixon for the live shows due to a hand injury.
The band have released the following statement: "As you may have heard, our guitarist Domo Dixon has suffered a tendon injury to his left hand and will be unable to play with us for the coming period. Domo severed a tendon in a bizarre trouser accident - that's not a joke - so will have to sit out gigs for the next three months. We're all very perplexed and upset about it, but are ploughing on with our upcoming European festival appearances. Playing guitar is Domo's passion and his life, and we're sure all our fans will join us in wishing him a full and speedy recovery. Until he's back up to shredding speed, we'll be joined on the road by our good friend Kevy Canavan on lead guitar."

Omnium Gatherum - Touring Guitarist Officially Joins The Band
Finnish melodic death metal band Omnium Gatherum have announced that current touring guitarist Joonas "Jope" Koto (Malpractice, ex-To/Die/For) has officially joined the band. Jope has been on tour with the band since former guitarist Harri Pikka (Total Devastation) left the band in August 2010.
Omnium Gatherum comments: "Joonas "Jope" Koto officially joins Omnium Gatherum as a new guitarist and backing clean vocalist, so OG is a twin guitar squad again and what's even better is that now we have Jackson guitar tour de force on both sides of the stage! He have been playing already a big bunch of gigs with OG as session live member as the previous guitarist Harri Pikka left the band over a year ago, and Jope was even filling up Harri in some gigs even before we separated ways with him.
Jope have been Markus Vanhala' partner in crime in a progressive metal band Malpractice for many years by now, so he was the first, the most natural and the only candidate for the job for us and gladly we got him on board! He has been playing and recording previously in To/Die/For and Hateframe too, so he is a hard core professional dude."
Joonas had the following to say: "After two years as a session guitarist the guys finally asked me to join OG and I didn't hesitate one second! From the get-go I have felt like part of a family. The guys are very great as persons and professional as musicians. I'm very happy and proud to be a part of such a great band of brothers."

ReVamp - Floor Jansen Is Suffering From Burn-Out
Ex-After Forever/ReVamp frontwoman Floor Jansen is suffering from a burn-out.
She recently released the following update: "For a few months now my health has not been good... I suffer from a burn-out. It took me a while to accept this fact, it was and is hard to be forced to take it easy and stop doing my work.
The shows booked for ReVamp are and have been for the last month my only activity and even that costs me more energy than I have. This burn-out doesn't mean I do not love my work! It's a sign of my system that I worked too hard for too long. I now have to be extremely careful with the amount of activities because my condition is poor.
On our tour in Latin America I will only be able to do the shows. I am sorry to say that I cannot attend to any other meetings or signing sessions. Also the social media such as Facebook and Twitter has been a bit quiet and will remain silent for a while until I am fully recovered.
I hope to be back on my feet soon and ask you for your sympathy. Music and the amazing support of you all have always energized me and I am sure this will pull me through this difficult period in my life again!"
