Temple Of The Black Moon - New Band Feat. Cradle Of Filth, Gorgoroth, Anthrax Members

Lo and truly behold! A hellish new band has emerged from the quagmire that is the extreme music scene.

Imagine a cauldron bubbling over with the unsavory flavors of Tool and Celtic Frost, and seasoned with the likes of Immortal and At The Gates, and you'd be about halfway to describing the uncouth racket these guys have spat upon an unsuspecting planet.

Calling themselves the Temple Of The Black Moon, the group (who describe their output as "music for an evil film noir') are an eclectic stew of musicians/hell-raisers/miscreants in the ungainly form of Dani Filth (Cradle Of Filth), Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, The Damned Things), King ov Hell (formerly of Gorgoroth and Ov Hell) and John Tempesta (formerly of White Zombie and now drumming with The Cult).

Explaining the origins of the name, vo-killist Dani Filth had this to mutter on the subject: "We had an innumerable amount of names that never seemed likely to stick, that was until we put our proverbial heads together and narrowed it down to just three or four, and then tossed for it (proverbially of course) using a silver Norwegian crown (we couldn't find any proper money). The name Temple Of The Black Moon represents the rigorous worship of desire, (the black moon astrologically has always held association with the dark Goddess Lilith) and of course the ramifications of the lunar eclipse, always a herald for death and ill-omen."

So far almost an album's worth of material has been demoed, with Temple Of The Black Moon hooking up in the darkest depths of Bergen, Norway to collectively thrash it out. Songtitles thus far include "Infernal Desire Machine", "Don't Call Up What You Can't Put Down", "Dark Eyes For Trouble", "Beautifully Perverse" and "C.N.T (All That's Missing Is You)".

An album release and subsequent live dates are expected to happen around mid-2012.

ICS Vortex - Signs Worldwide Deal With Century Media

Norway's ICS Vortex have signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records for the launch of the versatile Storm Seeker debut album, to be released on August 22nd, 2011 in Europe and August 23rd, 2011 in North America.

ICS Vortex, former Dimmu Borgir and current Borknagar member, comments on the signing as follows: "Boarding with Century Media, ICS Vortex is ready to weather whatever storm lies ahead. The album, aged like a pirate's favorite drink, is now ready to be shot with fellow mates."

ICS Vortex's debut album is a havoc of varied metal and takes the musical elements from his +10 years experience with Dimmu Borgir as well as the legacy of the classic bands with whom he is still active (Borknagar, Arcturus and Lamented Souls), topping things off with his signature clean vocals in order to make Storm Seeker become a perfectly balanced axe, whether a song is cutting fast, or dicing slow.

Storm Seeker features appearances by Borknagar teammate Asgeir Mickelson on drums and also Terje "Cyrus" Andersen (Susperia, ex-Dimmu Borgir) contributing some lead guitars. The extremely versatile debut album was recorded at Norwegian Toproom Studio (Mayhem, Tristania, Borknagar, etc.) with engineer Børge Finstad and mastered in Sweden by Peter in de Betou at Tailor Maid Studio (Arch Enemy, Dark Tanquillity, Dimmu Borgir, etc.).

After recordings, the ICS Vortex project had evolved a lot and actually turned into an ambitioned band, eager to perform live and with a permanent line-up as follows:

ICS Vortex - Vocals (ex-Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar, Arcturus)
Asgeir Mickelson - Drums (Sarke, Spiral Architect, ex-Borknagar, ex-Testament)
Terje "Cyrus" Andersen - Guitar (Susperia, ex-Satyricon, ex-Dimmu Borgir)
Jens F. Ryland - Guitar (Borknagar)
Steinar "Azarak" Gundersen - Bass (Spiral Architect, ex-Satyricon)

More ICS Vortex news and the first sound samples will be launched in the coming weeks.

Legion Of The Damned - Former Bassist Commits Suicide

According to a posting on the band's website, former bassist of Dutch thrashers Legion Of The Damned Twan Fleuren has committed suicide.

Twan joined the band Occult in 1998 where he directly joined them on a tour with Morbid Angel, Amon Amarth and Gorgoroth in 1999, after the recording of Occult's Rage to Revenge in 2001 and 2 great tours with Dark Funeral in 2001 and Exodus, Nuclear Assault and Agent Steel in 2003, Twan Fleuren was also at the beginning of the succes of Legion of the Damned and recorded with the band the legendary Elegy for the Weak with Andy Classen in 2003 that was later re-released under the name Feel the Blade in 2007, as well as the recording of Malevolent Rapture in 2004, which was released in 2006, the album that brought Legion of the Damned to a level where they are in right now.

Twan Fleuren was also part of the first Legion of the Damned tour that took place in 2006 with no one less than Kataklysm and Cannibal Corpse, however, Twan left the band half way the tour because his, at that time, baby born son was hospitalized, the band then agreed that it would be better for Twan to leave the band because doing the band and having its family was to complicated at that point, he was then replaced by bassplayer Harold Gielen in 2006.

About Twan's loss singer Maurice states: "Another very sad day in the Legion camp, Twan has been a great friend and we lost contact for several years because he was in some difficult times, only a few weeks back we were all back in contact again and it felt like these great old times were about to return, even Erik and me joined him on a terrace for a beer or 2 a few weeks ago, he even wanted to join us to With Full Force in July, where I was really looking forward to, he even showed alot of intrest in our new guitarplayer and the departure of Richard Ebisch. The bad news that came in today struck as a bomb not for me only personally but also for the band Legion of the Damned.

Of course we wish his family and kids all the strength they need in this process. We will miss you brother and of course all of the upcoming Legion of the Damned shows will be dedicated in his name!"

Drummer Erik announced following: "Yet another sad day in the history of Legion of the Damned. We knew that Twan had to face some extreme difficult times, but we certainly did not expect this, he was about to join us at some upcoming festivals and we were really looking forward to that. Maurice and I are happy that we still had a nice chat and drink with him at a terrace not so long ago after a really long time of not seeing each other, rest in peace my friend and my sincere condolences to his family"

Cathedral - Update On Future Plans

Back in February seminal UK doom metal act Cathedral announced their plans to disband. In an interview with The Quietus, vocalist Lee Dorrian now revealed the band will leave the stage permanently after a December 3rd gig at the London Kentish Town Forum. Support will come from kindred spirits Grand Magus, Comus, and Gentleman's Pistols.

The band will record one final studio album entitled The Last Spire to be released in 2012 as a follow-up to last year's The Guessing Game. There will be no live shows to support the album, as Dorrian claims that it's time for Cathedral to "move on" and hopes "to leave our recorded legacy to linger."

Shining - To Release First-Ever Single

With the long-awaited seventh full-length album out this month on Spinefarm Records, extreme metallers Shining are set to release a CD single which will only be available in their home country of Sweden. The single will comprise two tracks, one being "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel", taken from the new album VII - Född Förlorare, whilst the second will be a previously unreleased cover of the Alice Cooper song "Prince of Darkness".

This will be the first time that Shining has released a single, and founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth is hopeful that the new video, which was filmed recently and is currently being edited, will be included along with the two tracks: "We are trying to get the video included, but the people behind the single are a little nervous, and probably quite rightly so given its subject matter and content. We are looking into the possibility of maybe including a censored version. We'll see how that pans out, but whatever happens, the uncensored version will definitely appear very soon, so Shining fans who have been waiting for it, will not be disappointed".

Following the Swedish release, the band will consider the possibility of releasing a different version of the single elsewhere.

VII - Född Förlorare will be released on May 25th through Spinefarm Records. More album details were previously reported over here.
