Heaven And Hell - Tony Iommi Talks About The Future

Tony Iommi has talked to Sunday Mercury, a Birmingham newspaper about what the future might hold.

He confirms that the tribute show at the High Voltage festival in London will be "the very last gig we play as Heaven And Hell", as they "chose the name because the band comprised the Black Sabbath line-up that made the Heaven And Hell album." And that they will no longer carry on as Heaven And Hell, as they "couldn't carry on under that name without Ronnie".

Regarding a reunion with Ozzy; he stated "I spoke to Ozzy while I was in Los Angeles after Ronnie's funeral, and he said he'd give me a call when he got to England on his own tour". But that "I've not had that telephone call yet".

About the future, Iommi says they would "like to do something, and carry on playing", but "in what form, and with what singer, I don't know".

Dimmu Borgir - Album Title And Artwork Revealed

Dimmu Borgir have revealed the cover artwork and album title for their next effort, the follow-up to 2007's In Sorte Diaboli. The album will be called Abrahadabra. Its artwork was created by German artist Joachim Luetke (Kreator, Arch Enemy, Meshuggah) and was revealed step-by-step in 4 pieces during the last days. Abrahadabra will be released in Germany on September 24, in the rest of Europe on September 27, and in North America on October 12 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The word "abrahadabra" (which roughly translates into "I will create as I speak") first publicly appeared in Chapter III of Liber AL vel Legis (commonly referred to as "The Book of the Law") written by Aleister Crowley in Cairo, Egypt in 1904.

Dimmu Borgir singer/songwriter Shagrath shares the following about the new album: "After eleven months of total focus, dedication and professional team work, Darkness has been reborn. Some people have expressed their concern about the future of the band since the departure of some members of the clan. Let me assure you that things happen for a reason. The black flame burns brighter than ever before. With the mixture of our different musical preferences and the personalities involved, I will dare to say we have created a BEAST, the most detailed work to date out of our 17 years of existence. I know it's too much of a cliché to brag when you have a done a new album, but to put it short and simple, it's a fist in the face to all the doubters out there. Forward - Onward - March... Enter the supreme unknown."

For the second time in the band's career (i.e. 1996's Stormblåst), a one-word album title breaks the tradition of a three-word album title for a new studio release dating back to Dimmu Borgir's 1994 debut, For All Tid.

Guitarist/songwriter Silenoz has this to say on the topic: "We knew there would be some big changes with this album in more than one way and since we've had the three-word-title tradition for many years now, we thought it'd make a lot of sense for us to move on from that. It has served its purpose. We are a band that's all about change and moving forward. An album title consisting of one word goes hand-in-hand with the new material ? it describes both the musical and lyrical content in a more imaginary way, not to mention the unity and the everlasting flame which is Dimmu Borgir. Expect the unexpected!"

When asked about the central figure in the artwork and who/what he's supposed to represent, artist Joachim Luetke responds: "I think that's obvious. Since the whole "setting" is located in an icy, bleak, winter-y, post-industrial era, we're pretty close to H.P. Lovecraft's nameless elder gods. They're represented by the mask's tentacles. In short: the mask/face personifies dominion of powers far beyond mankind. The nameless gods witnessed the birth of our universe and they'll watch it implode. To them, the age of mankind is but a blink of an eye."

StarGazer - New Album Details, MP3 Available

Australian avant-garde occult death metal band StarGazer have finally completed work on their much-anticipated full-length album, A Great Work Of Ages, the first StarGazer full-length in five years. The album will be released late August.

Following 2005's The Scream That Tore The Sky - the band's debut album - StarGazer), along with their like-minded comrades Portal, had already built quite a reputation within the Australian underground metal scene since their formation towards the end of 1994 and had already manifested themselves as one of the most potent forces within the Australian metal underground.

And just like Portal, StarGazer (in which said members are also involved with bands such as Mournful Congregation, Cauldron Black Ram, and were even a part of Portal's line-up for Outre) have crafted themselves out to be one of the most unique death metal bands today (musically and lyrically). Amongst a series of demos, EP's, splits, and compilations (surrounding their Scream That Tore The Sky release), StarGazer create an intimidating breed of avant-death metal which comes across as chaotic mix of classic '80s thrash ala Coroner and Voivod blended with the aesthetic power of Morbid Angel, the blackthrash virulence of Absu, and who also incorporate the more progressive edge of death metal reminiscent of Testimony Of The Ancients era Pestilence, Atheist and Sadus.

Overall, A Great Work Of Ages is complex, very progressive, and ultimately psychedelic, yet technically proficient and masterfully crafted where an immense unholy atmosphere creates vortex-like chaos unparalleled through violent waves of sonic magick.

A Great Work Of Ages cover art] tracklist:

01. Red Antlered Radiant
02. Passing Stone - Into The Greater Sun MP3]
03. Pypes of Psychosomatis
04. Refractive Convex Continuum
05. Chase For The Serpentsong
06. The Morbid Slither, The Sinner Slough
07. Hue-Man-King
08. Formless Face of the Timeless Faceless

Ataraxie - Recording Anniversary Album

French funeral doomsters Ataraxie are still working on their 10th anniversary album, entitled Project X. Though the album should see the light of day before the end of the year. This anniversary release will take the shape of a double album, featuring re-recordings of The Other Path, a bunch of previously unreleased tracks (written between 2002 and 2009) and live material.

If everything goes by plan, the record should be out somewhere this autumn.

Icarus Witch - Live Session Vocalist Announced

Just three months ago, after the departure of original vocalist Matthew Bizilia, the guys of Icarus Witch were joined by a replacement vocalist Christopher Shaner. However, due to contractual obligations Christopher had prior to joining Icarus Witch, he will be unable to join the band for the first 3 dates of the Y&T tour that kicks off next Friday in Portland, Oregon. The band has, however, found a temporary replacement in vocalist Jason Russo.

In a statement on their MySpace blog, the band says: "We first had the pleasure to hear this guy wail a few years back when he was fronting Lifeforce Records artist, Herod. Since that time we also played a show in Cleveland with his band, Darkling. With a voice somewhere between TNT & Helloween on the high end and a ballsy growl that would make King Diamond proud, he's the perfect fit for this temporary fill in. We are most grateful that he's agreed to take this challenge on such a short notice. Portland, Seattle & Spokane are in for a rare treat. Don't take our word for it; check out his pipes at here."
