Watain - New Album Ready

Original news, posted on 26.02.2010

Swedish black metal squad Watain just completed their fourth full-length album, after two intense months at Necromorbus Studio.

Vocalist and mastermind E. comments: "I am now holding in my hand the final master tape of what might be the most dynamic and charged Watain release ever recorded. May the gods unto which it is written be pleased! We are very much looking forward to share this rich feast with our followers, whom we know have been hungering for a very long time. All I can say is that it will be worth the wait. We raise our cups unto all of you whose patience and support have been constant during the three fiery years since the release of Sworn to the Dark, and look forward to set the night aflame with you again soon!"

The unveiling of Watain's fourth monument will take place on June 7th, under ceremonial circumstances yet to be revealed.

Watain will also release a new single entitled Reaping Death. It will be released as a picture 7" EP on Walpurgisnacht. This single will feature the track "Reaping Death", along with a special B side.

UPDATED on 25.03.2010

The title of the fourth Watain album, to be released on June 7th, has been announced. Its name shall be Lawless Darkness.

"The title symbolises the unbound chaotic potential of that which is void of light", frontman E. comments. "The light that defines, the light that shapes and restricts. The light by which the forces of law and order uphold their reign. In the absence of that light lies the wellspring of Watain: in Lawless Darkness.

With this album and in all of our efforts with Watain we aim to capture the hungry madness and glimmering purity of darkness beyond illusion, the void that holds all yet where naught is manifest, the primordial tomb into which all the vanity of man and his creation shall collapse: indeed, The Lawless Darkness. Lawless Darkness shall be seen as a monument erected in honour of that collapse and a dedication to all those brave souls, who have willingly dared to venture the winding paths towards it."

UPDATE

Watain have announced the final details for the upcoming Lawless Darkness, due on June 7th. The digipak version will include the Death SS cover "Chains of Death" as a bonus track. The song can also be heard on the Reaping Death picture 7" single, due April 30th.

01. Death's Cold Dark
02. Malfeitor
03. Reaping Death

Kylesa - Ink Deal With Season Of Mist

Official press release

Season of Mist is proud to welcome American Sludge geniuses Kylesa. After Outlaw Order in 2008, the label is happy to continue broadening their musical horizons towards modern US psychedelic monolithic metal.

The band made the following comment: "We're very happy to announce our new partnership with Season of Mist for the next Kylesa release, which we are hoping to get out later this year. Regarding the new album, Kylesa adds: "The writing process for the new record has been intense, taking up the better part of each day since January (that's why you haven't heard from us lately), but in return we have some new material that we're very proud of. The studio sessions at The Jam Room in Columbia start in May and end in early July; we'll try to have a few reports for you along the way."

The band is currently touring Europe until early May and will perform at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands on April 15th. Check out the band's MySpace for more information on tour dates.

Whitman."

Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire - New Album Title Revealed

Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire have announced the title of their upcoming Prosthetic Records' debut. The album will be called, Songs of Ill Hope and Desperation, and is due this spring/early summer. The album was recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt) and the band promises their most dynamic, bleakest, and dirtiest material to date.

KoRn - Sign To Roadrunner Records

Korn has signed a worldwide recording deal with Roadrunner Records.

The band's first release on the label will be its ninth studio set Korn III - Remember Who You Are, produced by Ross Robinson, who collaborated with the band on its first two albums. An exact street date is yet to be announced, although a spokesperson for the label says it's eyeing a June 2010 international release.

In 2005, Korn inked a widely reported two-album deal with EMI/Virgin, which netted the metal stalwart $25 million upfront from the major (Billboard.biz, June 9, 2007). As part of the deal, EMI acquired a 30% stake in Korn's overall business through to 2010. The new deal with Roadrunner Records is a worldwide recording agreement that doesn't include any other ancillary rights.

"When it came to putting this record out, we could not think of anyone better to help us than Roadrunner, the only label that even understands rock music anymore," said bassist Fieldy in a statement.

According to Roadrunner Records, Korn has sold 30 million albums worldwide since its eponymous debut was released in 1994.

Royal Hunt - Sign With Scarlet Records

In a short update on the band's website, Royal Hunt have announced they signed a record deal with Italian label Scarlet Records for the European release of the new upcoming album, entitled X. An estimated release date is set for early June 2010.

Keyboard player André Andersen said the following about the new album: "This album came out of our love for the 70´s music (tagged as Classic Rock nowadays) - from Kansas, Genesis and ELP to Uriah Heep and Deep Purple - music which was/is very adventurous while just a tad naïve at the same time (as some might say). We all are notoriously resistant to categorize it in any way, form or shape, but (if hard pressed) would go as far as saying that it's definitely much more hard rock than metal and if by "progressive" you might mean some odd time signatures here and there as well as random key changes - sure, there're tons of them here... as well as really basic, simple stuff - so go figure."

Stay tuned for more updates.
